1640 Joint Resolutions
Whereas, The Pennsylvania Railroad does not allow access through
the Bush River Railroad Drawbridge; and
Whereas, The residents of this area are seriously inconvenienced
by such refusal or inability to allow free access; and
Whereas, The members of the Bush River Boat Club are
hampered considerably by this denial of free ingress and egress to
and from the Basin; now, therefore, be it
Resolved by the House of Delegates of Maryland, That the Army
Engineers hold a hearing and change the regulations governing the
opening of the draw of the Pennsylvania Railroad Bridge at Bush
River, Harford County, Maryland, in order to allow passage of
boats to the upper part of Bush River at will, or upon proper signal
by the boat to the attendant on the bridge; and be it further
Resolved, That a copy of this Resolution be sent to the Army En-
gineers, the Maryland Delegation in the United States Congress and
the Bush River Boat Club.

(House Joint Resolution 43)
House Joint Resolution expressing the deepest regrets of the General
Assembly over the untimely passing of the Honorable J. Ellis
Tawes.
The members of the General Assembly of Maryland have been
shocked and deeply saddened to hear of the untimely passing of our
friend and colleague from Somerset County, the Honorable J. Ellis
Tawes.
Mr. Tawes contributed much to the successful workings of the
General Assembly of Maryland. He was deeply concerned for the
public good, and as a legislator served with credit to himself and
with honor to his county and to the State of Maryland.
"Dido" Tawes was a friend to every member of the General
Assembly. Friendly, affable and of open demeanor, he endeared
himself personally to every member of the General Assembly, and
in his pasing there is a universal sense of sorrow and the deepest
regret; now, therefore, be it
Resolved by the General Assembly of Maryland, That the sym-
pathies and condolences of this Body be expressed over the untimely
passing of our good friend and colleague from Somerset County, the
Honorable J. Ellis Tawes; and be it further
