(House Joint Resolution 40)
House Joint Resolution requesting the Postmaster General and the
Congress of the United States to have an appropriate commemora-
tive United States postage stamp issued to commemorate this ses-
quicentennial year of the School of Medicine of the University of
Maryland.
Whereas, The School of Medicine of the University of Maryland
came into being in 1807; and
Whereas, The School of Medicine this year is enjoying its One
Hundred and Fiftieth year of creditable existence in the field of
medical education during which time instruction has been continuous
year after year; and
Whereas, The Maryland Agricultural College which was estab-
lished in 1856, was in 1920 together with the School of Medicine in-
cluded in the merge in which the present day University of Maryland
was established; and
Whereas, The School of Medicine of the University of Maryland
is one of the leading medical education institutions in the United
States; and
Whereas, The sesquicentennial year celebration of this great insti-
tution of higher learning should be brought to the attention of the
entire country in some forcible manner; now, therefore, be it.
Resolved by the General Assembly of Maryland, That the Post-
master General and the Congress of the United States be requested
to have an appropriate commemorative United States postage stamp
issued to commemorate this sesquicentennial year of the School of
Medicine of the University of Maryland; and be it further
Resolved, That the Secretary of State of Maryland be instructed
to send copies of this resolution under the great seal of Maryland to
each member of the Maryland delegation in the Congress of the
United States and to the Postmaster General of the United States.
