(House Bill 820)
AN ACT to authorize the County Commissioners of Charles County
in their discretion to advance and pay over to the Charles County
Tercentenary, Inc. a sum of money not to exceed $50,000 to be used
for the purposes set forth in the Charter of said Corporation and
subject to the restrictions also contained therein, relating to the
celebration of the three hundredth anniversary of the establish-
ment of Charles County.
Whereas, The three hundredth anniversary of the establishment
of Charles County will be celebrated during the year 1958; and
Whereas, The County Commissioners of Charles County have by
resolution appointed the Charles County Tercentenary Committee to
plan an appropriate celebration of this historic event, in which the
citizens of Charles County have manifested considerable interest;
and
Whereas, Said Committee has organized by forming a corporation
known as Charles County Tercentenary, Inc.; now, therefore,
Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That the County Commissioners of Charles County be authorized and
empowered in their discretion to advance and pay over to the Charles
County Tercentenary, Inc., a sum of money not to exceed $50,000
which may be necessary to accomplish the purposes set forth in the
Third paragraph of the Charter of the Corporation as follows:
"THIRD: The purposes for which the Corporation is formed are
as follows:
A. To observe the 300th Anniversary of the founding of Charles
County, Maryland, in such manner and ways and over such period of
time as the corporation may determine to be appropriate to the end
that county, state, and national attention might be focused upon the
history of Charles County and its important place, past and present,
in the life of the state and nation.
B. To foster and develop the interest of the residents of Charles
County in their heritage.
