CHAPTER 687
(House Bill 786)

AN ACT to repeal Section 300, Article 17 of the Public Local Laws
of Prince George's County (1953 Edition), title "Circuit Court",
sub-title "Clerk of the Circuit Court", said section relating to bound
receipt books in the office of the Circuit Court.

Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Section 300, Article 17 of the Code of Public Local Laws of
Prince George's County, (1953 Edition), title "Circuit Court", sub-
title "Clerk of the Circuit Court" relating to bound receipt books,
be and the same is hereby repealed.

Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
June 1, 1957.

Approved April 10, 1957.

CHAPTER 688
(House Bill 789)

AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Section 25 of
of Article 17 of the Annotated Code of Maryland (1956 Supple-
ment), title "Clerks of Courts", sub-title "General Duties of
Clerks", relating to the salaries of all of the non-elected employees
of the CIVIL AND CRIMINAL courts in Baltimore City.

Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Section 25 of Article 17 of the Annotated Code of Maryland
(1956 Supplement), title "Clerks of Courts", sub-title "General Duties
of Clerks", be and the same is hereby repealed and re-enacted with
amendments, to read as follows:

25.

The State Comptroller, on application of the clerk of the court in
any county or the clerk of any of the courts in Baltimore City, or on
his own initiative, shall have the authority and power to fix the com-
pensation or salary of all of the employees in the office of any of said
clerks, which compensation or salary is paid by the State or out of the
fees of such office; provided, however, that in no event shall any com-
pensation or salary be fixed at an amount less than that being paid
such employee or employees on July 1, 1945, whether such salary be
fixed by general or local law or otherwise. Provided, however, that
on or after July 1, 1955, the State Comptroller shall allow and pay
a salary increase of $1,500.00 per year to each chief deputy clerk of
the several clerks of court in Baltimore City. Said increase shall be
