1, 1956, shall be continued in service or restored to his teaching posi-
tion or other comparable service in accordance with said sub-sections,
after he reaches the age of 70 years and until he has served six
calendar quarters in service, after July 1, 1956 or until he has served
the minimum number of calendar quarters for him to qualify for
minimum social security benefits. Should any beneficiary under the
Teachers' Retirement System be restored to active service under
the provisions of this Act, all allowances that he is receiving under
such system shall cease. He shall again become a member of the
retirement system and shall contribute thereafter at the same rate
he paid prior to retirement. In no event shall such extended employ-
ment in service continue beyond the attainment of six calendar
quarters of coverage under the social security system or the end of the
teaching semester following the attainment of such coverage. Such
a continuation in teaching employment is solely for the purpose of
allowing the member in service to qualify for minimum social security
benefits, and is not to be construed as repealing or affecting in any
manner any other requirement as to attendance, satisfactory per-
formance or other working or employment requirements concern-
ing such employees.

Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall expire
automatically and with no further action required by the General
Assembly of Maryland on January 1, 1958.

Sec. 3. And be it further enacted, That this Act is hereby de-
clared to be an emergency measure and necessary for the immediate
preservation of the public health and safety and having been passed
by a yea and nay vote, supported by three-fifths of all the members
elected to each of the two Houses of the General Assembly of Mary-
land, the same shall take effect from the date of its passage.

(House Bill 625)

AN ACT temporarily to waive the provisions of Section 8 (1) (b) of
Article 73B of the Annotated Code of Maryland (1951 Edition),
title "Pensions", in order to provide that certain members of the
State Employees' Retirement System who hold such membership
by virtue of being officers or employees of a municipal corporation
in this State and pursuant to the sub-title "Employees of Municipal
Corporations" in said Article 73B, shall be continued in service by
their appointing authorities, after such members reach the age of
70 years, until they have served respectively in such service for
a period of six calendar quarters after January 1, 1957, or the
minimum number of calendar quarters for the purpose of making
