United States census, by the dollar volume of total fees and taxes
collected and of excess fees turned over to the State for each of the
preceding five years by the office of the register of wills for which the
salary is being fixed and by other pertinent data which has relation
to the reasonableness of the salary in relation to the work done and
volume handled by the office, it being the intent of this section that
each register of wills shall receive a fair and adequate compensation
for the effort and duties required of him by his office and the volume
and character of work done by him as register of wills in relation to
the salary fixed by the Board of Public Works for each of the other
registers of wills in this State.

298. (d) The register of wills of Baltimore City shall be entitled
to receive a salary of $12,000.00.

Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall not apply to
the present term of office of the register of wills as aforesaid, but
shall be effective upon the term of office next succeeding.

Sec. 3. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
June 1, 1957.

CHAPTER 636
(House Bill 622)

AN ACT temporarily to waive the provisions of sub-sections (b) and
(c) of Section 109 of Article 77 of the Annotated Code of Mary-
land (1951 Edition, as amended from time to time), title "Public
Education", sub-title "Teachers' Retirement System", in order to
provide that certain members of the Teachers' Retirement System
shall be continued in service by their appointing authorities after
such members reach the age of 70 years, or that they be restored
to such teaching positions, until they have served respectively in
such service for a period of six calendar quarters after July 1,
1956 or the minimum number of calendar quarters for the purpose
of making them eligible to qualify for minimum social security
benefits, and providing for the application and expiration of this
Act.

Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That sub-sections (b) and (c) of Section 109 of Article 77 of the
Annotated Code of Maryland (1951 Edition, as amended from time
to time), title "Public Education", sub-title "Teacher's Retirement
System" (which relate to the retirement of members in service in
the Teachers' Retirement System) are temporarily waived in order
to provide that any such member in service who was at least 68
years and 6 months of age and less than 70 years of age as of July
