thereon, and the income derived therefrom in the hands of the holders
thereof from time to time, shall be and is hereby declared to be ex-
empt from State, county and municipal taxation of every kind and
nature whatsoever in the State of Maryland.
Sec. 9. And be it further enacted, That the authority to borrow
money and to issue bonds conferred on the County by Chapter 373 of
the Acts of the General Assembly of Maryland passed at its January
Session in the year 1955, is hereby withdrawn to the extent that the
same has not heretofore been exercised, but nothing herein contained
shall be construed to impair, in any way whatsoever, the validity of
the bonds which have heretofore been issued by the County under
the authority of said Act.
Sec. 10. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
on the first day of June, 1957.

AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Section 298 (a)
of Article 93 of the Annotated Code of Maryland, (1956 Supple-
ment), title "Testamentary Law", sub-title "Register of Wills",
and to add new Section 298 (d) to said Article and sub-title of said
Code, to follow immediately after Section 298 (c) thereof, pro-
viding for the salary for the Register of Wills of Baltimore City
AND OF THE SEVERAL COUNTIES.
Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Section 298 (a) of Article 93 of the Annotated Code of Mary-
land, (1956 Supplement), title "Testamentary Law", sub-title "Regis-
ter of Wills", be and it is hereby repealed and re-enacted, with
amendments, and new Section 298 (d) be and it is hereby added to
said Article and sub-title of said Code, to follow immediately after
Section 298 (c) thereof, and all to read as follows:
298.
(a) Amount of salaries—The register of wills of each county of this
State shall be entitled to receive annually a salary of not less than
$2,500.00 and not more than $9,000.00 $12,000.00 to be fixed and deter-
mined in each instance by the Board of Public Works of this State.
Each register of wills shall be entitled to the salary fixed and no
more. In fixing the annual salary of the register of wills of each
county [and of Baltimore City,] the Board of Public Works shall
be guided in the exercise of its discretion in regard thereto by the
population of said county [or city,] determined by the last official
