Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Section 190 of the Code of Public Local Laws of Anne Arundel
County (1947 Edition, being Article 2 of the Code of Public Local
Laws of Maryland), title "Anne Arundel County", sub-title "Build-
ing Permits", be and it is hereby repealed and that new Section 190
be and it is hereby enacted in lieu thereof, to stand in the place and
stead of the section so repealed; and that Sections 187 and 192 of
said Code and sub-title be and they are hereby repealed and re-
enacted, with amendments, and all to read as follows:
190. The applicants for such building permits are to pay to the
County Commissioners of said County such fees as may be required
by the said County Commissioners.
187. The County Commissioners are hereby empowered and au-
thorized to appoint [two] Building Inspectors whose duty it shall be
to see that its regulations are adhered to, and that permits are issued
in accordance with said regulations. The salary of each of said
Building Inspectors shall be fixed by the County Commissioners.
Said Building Inspectors shall be residents and property owners of
Anne Arundel County and shall be required to furnish a Surety Bond
to the County Commissioners in the sum of Two Thousand Dollars
($2,000) each. They shall maintain working hours, at the minimum,
from nine o'clock A. M. to four o'clock P. M. on each day of the week,
Monday through Friday, inclusive. Members of the County Police
Force of Anne Arundel County shall, as part of their regular duties
ascertain if all buildings and structures being erected within the
limits of Anne Arundel County are covered by a building permit
issued under the provisions of this sub-title, and shall notify said
Building Inspectors of any building or structure for which no such
building permit has been obtained. [Provided further, that said
County Commissioners may in their discretion appoint a third such
Building Inspector, if in their opinion, such an addition is necessary
in order adequately to discharge the duties and responsibilities of
such Building Inspectors.]
192. Any owner, agent, builder or contractor, who shall erect or
undertake, or authorize the erection of a building or structure of any
kind in said County, outside the City of Annapolis, without first
having obtained a permit, [and] or who, after receiving such permit,
does not comply with the prescribed regulations pertaining thereto,
shall be guilty of a misdemeanor punishable by a fine of not less than
Twenty-five Dollars ($25.00), nor more than One Hundred Dollars
($100.00) or by imprisonment not exceeding six months or both such
fine and imprisonment, for each offense, and each day such violation
shall be permitted to exist shall constitute a separate offense. The
County Commissioners shall prosecute violations of this law before
any Justice of the Peace of said County and the amount of any fine
or fines collected shall be paid over by said Justice of the Peace to
the County Commissioners of Anne Arundel County.
Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
June 1, 1957.
