them, of the arts of the president and directors aforesaid, in the
leasing, selling, conveying, transferring, or binding by their con-
tracts, the property, estate, common stock or joint funds, of the
said company, to give efficacy to such acts, be and the same is here-
by repealed.

CHAP. CV.
A Supplement to an act, entitled, An act tor the benefit of the University or
Maryland.

Be it enacted, by the General Assembly of Maryland, That the
lottery authorised to be drawn by the act passed at December ses-
sion eighteen hundred and sixteen, for the benefit of the. university
of Maryland, to which this act is a supplement, be permitted to be
drawn in two schemes, and the same be and is hereby relieved and
released from the payment of the tax of five per cent, imposed by
the act to regulate lotteries; Provided always, that the said mana-
gers shall, before they proceed to draw either of said schemes, pay
to the treasurer of the western shore the sum of eighteen hundred
dollars on the scheme about to be drawn, to be applied in the pay-
ment of the salary of the lottery commissioners.

CHAP. CVI.

An Act for the relief of John M'Pherson, and others, appointed Managers of a
Lottery under an act passed at December session eighteen hundred and sixteen,
chapter forty-two.

1. Be it enacted, by the General Assembly of Maryland, That
John M'Pherson, and others, appointed managers of a lottery by
an act passed at December session eighteen hundred and sixteen,
chapter forty-two, entitled, An act authorising a lottery for raising
a sum of money to buy a lot of ground in Frederick town, in Fre-
derick county, and build a church and parsonage house thereon, be
and their securities are hereby discharged from the payment of the
bond given by the said managers, and their securities, to the trea-
surer of the western shore of Maryland, for the payment of five
per centum upon the gross amount of prizes in said lottery.
2. And be it enacted, That the treasurer of the western shore of
Maryland, be and he is hereby authorised and directed, to with-
draw the unit or suits instituted on the said bond in Frederick
county court, against the managers aforesaid, and their securities,
upon the payment of the costs of the said suit or suits by the de-
fendants in the same.

CHAP. CVII.

An Act, entitled, An act to authorise the Orphans Court of Charles County to
take the Bond of George H. Spalding, Sheriff of Charles County.

Be it enacted, by the General Assembly of Maryland, That the judg-
es of the orphans court of Charles county, be and they are hereby
authorised to take the bond of George Hilleary Spalding, the pre-
sent sheriff of Charles county, and the said bond, when executed
and approved by them, shall have the same force and operation in
law as if the same had been taken within the time prescribed by law.
