CHAP. LXI.
An Act relating to Constables in the City or Baltimore.
Be it enacted, by the General Assembly of Maryland, That in all
cases where a capias ad satisfaciendum shall be issued by a justice
of the peace in the city of Baltimore, made returnable on a day
therein specified, and the defendant or defendants shall be arrested
on such process at any time before such return day, the justice be-
fore whom the said process shall be returned, is hereby authorised
and required, upon the said defendant or defendants being produced
before him by the constable making the arrest, to commit such de-
fendant or defendants, in the same manner as if such defendant or
defendants had been produced upon the return day, any law, usage
or custom, to the contrary notwithstanding; Provided, the said de-
fendant or defendants shall reside in the city of Baltimore or out of
the state of Maryland.

CHAP. LXII.
An Act extending to John H. D. Lane, Collector of Anne-Arundel County,
further time to complete his Collection
1. Be it enacted, by the General Assembly of Maryland, That
the said John H. D. Lane be and he is hereby authorised, to col-
lect until the first day of January eighteen hundred and twenty-one,
all balances due. him as collector of Anne-Arundel county, in the
same manner as he could or might have done within the time li-
mited by law, any law to the contrary notwithstanding.
2. And be it enacted, That it shall be the duty of the said John
H. D. Lane, before he proceeds to execute or distrain the proper-
ty of any person or persons for public dues in virtue of this act, to
deliver to such person or persons chargeable with the same, at least
thirty days previous to levying such execution or distress, an ac-
count, written in words at full length, of the public dues demanded
of him, her or them, with an affidavit annexed, if required, that
he hath not received any part thereof, nor any thing as security or
satisfaction for the same, more than credit given, to the best of his
knowledge.
3. And be it enacted, That the said John H. D. Lane, before he
derives any benefit from or under this act, shall lodge his collection
books in the clerk's office of Anne-Arundel county, for the inspec-
tion of all persons interested in the same.

CHAP. LXIII.
An Act to make valid a Deed of Manumission executed by Thomas Carter, late
of Queen-Anne's County, deceased.
Be it enacted, by the General Assembly of Maryland, That the
deed of manumission executed by Thomas Carter, late of Queen
Anne's county, deceased, bearing date on the sixth day of December
eighteen hundred and six, and recorded among the records of the
county aforesaid, as appears by the certificate of the, clerk of the
county, be and the same is hereby confirmed, and made valid and
effectual in law, to all intents and purposes whatsoever; and the said
manumission heretofore executed and recorded, shall have full force
and effect to liberate and set free the negroes therein mentioned,
