CHAP. 32.

Course of proceed-
ings of commis-
sioners

powered, on application by James H. Gest of said county, in be-
half of Susan E. Elliott, Mary M. Elliott and Sarah H. Gest, or
on his application for either of them, to issue a commission directed
to five sensible and judicious men, authorising them, or a majori-
ty of them, to make division of the real estate which Thomas El-
liott, deceased, devised in his lust will and testament to his daugh-
ters Susan Elliott, Mary Gest, and his grand-daughter Sarah H.
Gest, according to their respective titles and interest in the same.
2. And be it enacted, That the course and manner of the pro-
ceedings of the said commissioners shall be the same in all respects
as is prescribed by the act of descents, and the several supplemen-
tary acts thereto, for the regulating and government of commission-
ers appointed under the said acts and supplements.

CHAP. XXXIII.

An Act Co incorporate The Jackson Beneficial Society of Baltimore.
Whereas William F. Head, Alexander J. W. Jackson, Andrew
A. Campbell, John Fossett, Richard Chapman, John Peal, Abra-
ham Sliver, Thomas M. Kinley, Thomas A. Taylor, William Duff,
Joshua Downs. David Jones, Laurence Frederick, James Mooney,
Samuel Rust. Isaac N. George, William Martin, Josiah Vesey,
William Doyle, John Ormsby, Levin Smith, Robert Gott, J. F.
Winchell, David Harlow, Delaphine Griding, George Wintkle,
Ezekiah Langley, John Tilman, John Poulson, Thomas Thomp-
son, Patrick M'Kelly, Thomas Twigg, and others of the city of
Baltimore, have formed themselves into a society, under the name
and style of The Jackson Beneficial Society of Baltimore, for the
purpose of aiding and assisting each other during periods of sick-
ness of themselves or families, or when overtaken by misfortune,
and have petitioned the general assembly of Maryland, for an act
of incorporation; therefore,
1. Be it enacted, by the General Assembly of Maryland, That the
aforesaid members of the said society, as well as those who here-
after, according to the constitution and by-laws of the said society,
shall become members of it, be and they are hereby created and
made a corporation and body politic for ever hereafter, by the
name and style of The Jackson Beneficial Society of Baltimore,
and by that name shall have succession, and be capable in law of
purchasing, holding and selling, both real and personal property,
as other corporations may do by law, provided the value of the
property held at any one time shall not exceed ten thousand dol-
lars; and to sue and be sued, plead and be impleaded, and to make,
have and use, one common seal, and the. same to alter at pleasure,
and generally to do all acts and tilings which may be necessary to
carry into effect the objects of the said corporation.
2. And be it enacted, That the officers of the said society shall
consist of a president, vice-president, treasurer and secretary, who
shall be elected by ballot on the third Monday in March annually,
a majority of all the members of the said society being necessary
to constitute a choice; the society shall also have power to appoint
such other officers as may be deemed expedient and necessary, in
such a manner as may be thought most proper.
9. And be it enacted, That the said society shall have power to
pass by-laws, to fix the amount in money which each person shall
