1819.

pay on being admitted a member of the said society; to fix the
amount of monthly, quarterly, and yearly contributions, which
each member of the society shall pay, and the fines which members
shall pay for breaches of the laws of the society; to regulate the
distribution of the funds of the society among the members of the
society, and their families, whom sickness or misfortune may have
rendered proper objects of charity within the views and objects of
the. society; to make rules and regulations for the. admission of
members, and for the expulsion of members whose misconduct may
have rendered them unworthy to remain members of the society,
and to make such other regulations, rules and by-laws, as shall be
expedient and necessary to accomplish the objects of the. society,
and are not repugnant to the laws of Maryland; Provided always,
that no by-law of the said society shall be valid unless adopted by
a majority of the members of the said society, and that any one
who may feel himself aggrieved by any by-laws of the said society,
or is unwilling to submit to any by-law, rule, or regulation of the
society, may at any time withdraw from the said society, and cease
to be a member, on relinquishing all claim to the beneficial aid of
the said society, and to the contributions which ho may have paid
to the said society.
4. And be it enacted, That this act shall be and remain in force
until the first day of January eighteen hundred and thirty-nine,
and until the end of the next session of the general assembly which
shall happen thereafter.

CHAP. XXXIV.

An Act to Incorporate the Franklin Beneficial Society.

Whereas Jacob Deems, Thomas H. Denison, William Kesley,
Charles Webb, William Hance, James A. Hazelett, and others,
have formed themselves into a society for the laudable purpose of
affording relief to each other, and their respective families, in the
event of sickness, distress and death, and have prayed an act of
incorporation, that they may the better execute their intentions; and
the legislature being desirous to promote such useful intentions,
therefore,
1. Be it enacted, by the General Assembly of Maryland, That Ja-
cob Deems, Thomas H. Denison, William Kesley, Charles Webb,
William Hance, James A Hazelett, and others, that now are or
may hereafter become members of said corporation herein erected,
or may be admitted into the said corporation agreeably to the con-
stitution, rules, and by-laws of the same, and their successors, are
hereby declared to be one community, corporation and body politic,
for ever, by the name, style and title, of The Franklin Beneficial
Society, provided that the said corporation may be dissolved at
any time by the consent of its members as is hereafter provided.
2. And be it enacted, That the affairs of the said society shall be
managed and conducted by a president, vice-president, treasurer,
and acting committee of seven members, to be chosen annually on
the second Tuesday in December in each and every year, in such
manner as the said society shall think proper to appoint.
3. And be it enacted, That the present members of the said soci-
ety, and their successors, by their corporate name, shall and may
have perpetual succession, and shall and may at all times hereafter
