CHAP. 26.

Title to land made

of land.

after the date of the said deed and without notice of such deed by
the purchaser.
2. And be it enacted, That the title of the said church in and to
the land aforesaid, when the deed shall be recorded as the preced-
ing section requires, shall be confirmed and made valid, and the
same shall vest in the following trustees for the use and benefit of
the said church, to wit: Jacob Hahn, Junior, John Slyden, Peter
Erb and Nicholas Deib, or any three of them, and the successors
of such trustees, or any three of such successors, to be appointed,
according to the rules and ordinances of said church.
3. And be, it enacted, That the said trustees, or any three of them,
or any three of their successors, to be appointed as aforesaid, shall
have power and authority to sell and dispose of any part of the said
land, when in their judgment it may be thought expedient so to do,
and the proceeds of the same to hold in trust for the use and benefit
of the said church.

CHAP. XXVII.

A Further Supplement to the act, entitled, An act to incorporate a Company for
the purpose of Building a Bridge over the River Susquehanna.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland, That it shall
and may be lawful for a majority of the directors elected by the
stockholders as specified in the original act, to fill up any vacancy
that may happen in their board, by removal, death or resignation,
so as to keep the board of directors always full, until a new elec-
tion shall take place.

CHAP. XXVIII.

An Act for the benefit of Wilson Carey Selden, of the State of Virginia.
Whereas Wilson Carey Selden, by his petition to this general
assembly, hath set forth, that by a late purchase he has become the
proprietor of a tract of land, constituting an island called and
known by the name of Eden, situated and lying in the river Po-
tomac, and within the limits of Montgomery county in this state;
that he is desirous to improve and cultivate the same, and to enable
him so to do, hath prayed that a law may pass authorising him to
import and remove into this state, from the state of Virginia, such
number of slaves, now being his properly, as he may think proper,
to be employed upon the aforesaid island; and the prayer of the said
petitioner appearing reasonable, therefore,
1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland, That the
said Wilson Carey Selden be, and he is hereby authorised, to im-
port and bring into this state, such number of slaves as he may
think proper, being bona fide his property, to be employed upon the
aforesaid island, in the cultivation thereof, provided they shall be
actually so employed, and such slaves at his pleasure to remove be-
tween the said island, and his estate in Virginia, to be employed on
either as occasion may require; Provided, such slaves so to be re-
moved and employed as aforesaid be natives of the state of Virgi-
nia, or shall have resided therein three years at least before the pas-
sage of this act, any law to the contrary notwithstanding.
2. And be it enacted, That nothing herein contained shall be con-
strued to authorise any sale, or disposition, within this state, of
any of the said slaves, or their descendants, except in case of dis-
position by last will and testament, and disposition by law for bona
fide debts; or consequent upon intestacy.
