CHAP. XXI.

An Act to incorporate the Trustees of the Federal Hill Sunday School Room.
Whereas no truth is more incontrovertible, than that righteous-
ness exalteth a nation, but sin in a reproach to any people; and as
the establishment of places for the gratuitous instruction of the. ris-
ing generation in the principles of sound religion and gospel purity
of morals, forms an important mean of causing righteousness to
prevail, and sinful habits to be suppressed: And whereas, a number
of Christians of various religious denominations, (principally be-
longing to the Protestant Episcopal Church of St. Peter in the city
of Baltimore,) have, by voluntary contribution, caused to be erect-
ed on Federal Hill, in the said city, a spacious building for the pur-
pose of accommodating a Sunday School, now taught therein, and
of being used as a public place of worship; and Talbot Jones, John
Clarke, Thomas Winwood, R. H. Moale, William Brundige,
Samuel Young, and William Norris, heretofore elected trustees of
the said school room, have, by their petition to this General As-
sembly, prayed that they may be incorporated, for the purpose of
perpetuating to the public the benefits and advantages to be derived,
from the said room, and for securing the manner in which it shall
be appropriated, &c. This general assembly, deeming the prayer
of said petition reasonable, and wishing to encourage such laudable
institutions, therefore,
1. Be it enacted, by the General Assembly of Maryland, That Tal-
bot Jones, John Clarke, Thomas Winwood, R. H. Moale, Wil-
liam Brundige, Samuel Young, and William Norris, and their suc-
cessors, (who shall be duly elected in the manner hereinafter des-
cribed and directed,) are hereby declared to be one community, cor-
poration and body politic, forever hereafter, by the name and style
of The Trustees of the Federal Hill Sunday School Room, and by
that name they shall be and are hereby made able and capable in
law to have, purchase, possess, take, receive and hold, to them,
and to their successors, as aforesaid, any property, real, personal
or mixed, provided the dear yearly value of the same do not ex-
ceed in the whole the sum of two thousand dollars; and the same to
convey, lease, loan, or otherwise dispose of, in such manner as to
them, or a majority of them, shall seem most beneficial to the in-
stitution.
2. And be it enacted, That in case of the death, resignation, or
removal from the city, of any one or more of the trustees at any
time, the remaining trustees shall forthwith meet and proceed to
elect by ballot, other sensible, judicious, and discreet person or per-
sons, to fill such vacancy or vacancies, so as to perpetuate the num-
ber of seven trustees of the said room for ever, four of whom shall
be a quorum.
3. And be it enacted, That the said trustees, and their successors,
by the name, and style aforesaid, shall have perpetual succession,
and be capable in law to sue and be sued, plead and be impleaded,
answer and be answered, defend and be defended, in any court of
justice whatsoever, and to make and use one common seal, and the
