CHAPTER 81.

An Additional Supplement to an act, entitled, An act re-
lating to the Public Roads in the several Counties therein
mentioned.
Whereas, the present law relating to public roads in Charles
and Calvert counties, has been found by experience to be ineffici-
ent, and the overseers appointed in pursuance of that act have
heretofore been negligent in having the same carried into effect;
Therefore,
Sec. 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland, That
after the passage of this act, it shall be the duty of the. levy courts
in the counties aforesaid, at their last meeting in each year, to
take notice of, and enter on their journal, the name or names of
such overseer or overseers of muds in their respective counties, as
shall neglect to comply with and pursue the directions of the
eleventh section of the law to which this is a supplement, and such
overseer or overseers, so neglecting to do the same, shall forfeit for
each offence, the sum of eight dollars, to be deducted by the levy
court from their annual allowance; Provided nevertheless, that it
shall he discretionary with said court to remit that forfeiture if
application be made, and good cause shewn, at any time before the
county levy for the ensuing year shall be assessed and proporti-
oned.
2. And be it enacted, That every overseer of roads in the coun-
ties aforesaid, hereafter appointed, shall be allowed eight dollars,
per annum in addition to the sum already allowed them by the
thirteenth section of the act to which this is a supplement, to be
made out and paid as heretofore.

inspected and
transcribed.

CHAPTER 82.

An act to inspect and transcribe the Records of the Sur-
veyor of Charles County, and for other purposes.
Sec. 1. He it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland, That
John Barnes, William S. Jones and Thomas Jones, or any two of
them, be and they are hereby authorised and empowered, to in-
spect the records of the surveyor of Charles county, for the pur-
pose of ascertaining and determining how much or what part of
said records are in such a situation as to require to be transcribed;
and that the said surveyor is hereby authorised and required to
. transcribe, in a legible hand, such parts of the records aforesaid
as shall he pointed out and recommended by the commissioners
aforesaid, and the said surveyor shall be allowed therefor such sum
as the said commissioners shall deem right and proper, to be levi-
ed on the assessable property of said county, and collected and paid
by the collector thereof to the said surveyor, or his order.
2. And be it enacted, That the said commissioners, before they
act as such, shall take an oath before some justice of the peace for
the county aforesaid, truly and faithfully, and according to the
best of their judgment, to execute the duty hereby committed to
them, and shall return to the levy court of said county a certificate,
under their hands, of their qualification according to the provisi-
ons of this act, and of their proceedings in pursuance thereof.
