Affairs, how to
be conducted.

Meeting--pow-
ers of society.

advice to such emigrants from, or natives of Ireland, arriving at
or residing in any part of the state of Maryland, as may be in want
and deemed worthy; Provided always, that the dear annual value
of the property hold or owned by the said society shall not exceed
ten thousand dollars.
2. And be it enacted, That the affairs of the said society shall be
conducted and managed by a president, and such other officers, and
in such manner, as the by-laws to be made as herein directed shall
authorise and provide; and until such by-laws shall be enacted and
made, the present officers of the said society, to wit: Luke Tiernan,
President, John Kelso, vice-president, reverend John Glendy,
chaplain, Samuel J. Donaldson, counsellor, George Brown, physi-
cian, Stewart Brown, treasurer, William Young, secretary, and
Samuel Harden, Samuel Moore, Thomas Kelso, Martin F. Maher,
John Sullivan, David Burke and John Hanna, managers, shall
conduct the affairs of the society conformably to the constitution
and articles formed and agreed to by the members previously to the
passage of this act, and shall be entitled to hold their said offices
until an election shall be made by the members as is herein directed.
3. And be it enacted, That the members of the Hibernian Soci-
ety of Baltimore shall meet on the first Saturday in March next
after the passing of this act, at such place and hour as the presi-
dent of the said society shall appoint, and a majority of the mem-
bers assembled at such time and place of meeting shall have power,
and they are hereby authorised, to pass all such by-laws as they
may think necessary; to provide for fixing the time of the anniver-
sary, and other meetings of the society, and notifying the same to
the members; to specify what officers shall be chosen annually for
the society, their powers and duties, and prescribe the time, place
and manner, of their election, and of filling any vacancies that
may occur; to provide for the admission and expulsion of members;
to provide for the collection of annual and other contributions; to
provide for the distribution and disposition of the funds of the so-
ciety to such charitable purposes as are designated in this charter,
and in payment of the necessary expenses of the society; and in ge-
neral to provide for conducting and managing the business of the
society, and for exercising all the powers, rights and privileges,
granted or authorised by this act for the benevolent purposes herein
before mentioned, in as full and ample a manner as any other cor-
porate body might or could do; and a majority of the members
which shall be present at each meeting of the said society for the
annual election of officers, shall have power to alter, repeal, revise
and amend, all or any of the by-laws which shall he made as afore-
said, and to make others, which shall be subject to like repeal and
revision; Provided, that such by-laws shall not be inconsistent with
this charter, nor in contradiction to any of the laws of this state.
