CHAPTER 18.

An act for the benefit of William Cowan, of Cecil County.
Whereas, William Cowan of Cecil county, hath represented to
this general assembly, that a certain Thomas Rowe, of the county
aforesaid, did by deed convey unto a certain John Culbertson and
James Culbertson, an undivided moiety of a parcel or parcels of
land lying in the county aforesaid; that the said Thomas Rowe,
James Culbertson and John Culbertson, did by deed convey unto
the said William Cowan, all their several and respective rights and
titles to the said lands; that the said John Culbertson and James
Culbertson, were aliens at the time when the said land was con-
veyed unto them; and also that the Haiti John Culbertson was an
alien at the time when the said land was conveyed unto the said
William Cowan: And whereas the said William Cowan has prayed
that his title to the said land may be made valid, Therefore,
Sec. 1. lie it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland, That the
right, title and claim, of the said William Cowan, to the said land
as mentioned and described in the deeds above referred to, and the
appurtenances thereunto belonging, shall be and the same is here-
by made as valid, as perfect and as complete, as if the said John
Culbertson and James Culbertson had been duly naturalized ac-
cording to the laws of the United States, before the said land was
conveyed unto them, the said John Culbertson and James Culbert-
son, by the said Thomas Rowe, any law of this state to the contra-
ry notwithstanding.

CHAPTER 19.

. A Supplement to an Act to incorporate the Union Company
of Snow Hill.
: Sec. 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland, That
the president and managers of the Union Company of Snow Hill,
shall be and they are hereby authorised, to augment the capital
stock of said company to fifty-two thousand five hundred dollars,
by extending the shares to thirty-five dollars each, provided the
holders of two-thirds of the stock shall agree thereto in a general
meeting of the stockholders, to be called according to the provisi-
ons of the original act.
2. And be it enacted, That the said augmented capital shall be
paid in such manner, and at such time, as the president and mana-
gers shall think most conducive to the interest of the institution.

CHAPTER 20.

An act for the establishment of an Academy at Elkton in
Cecil County.
Whereas application has been made to this general assembly,
by certain inhabitants of Cecil county, that a law may pass estab-
lishing an academy at Elkton in said county: And whereas institu-
tions for the liberal education of youth, in different parts of this
state, would have beneficial effects in training up and continuing a
succession of able and virtuous men, for discharging the various
offices and duties of public and private life: And whereas many,
who would wish to give their children such education, have it nut
