CHAPTER 88.

An act authorising a Lottery to raise a sum of money for
the purpose of completing a School House, and pur-
chasing Church Bells, in the Town of Boonsborough,
in Washington County.
Whereas by the petition of sundry inhabitants of Boonsbo-
rough, in Washington county, it hath been prayed, that a law
may pass authorising certain persons to propose a scheme of a
lottery to raise a sum of money for the purpose of finishing the
school-house, and purchasing church bells in said town; and the
prayer of the petition appearing reasonable, Therefore,
Sec. 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Charles Fague, Michael Piper, George Newkirk, George
Shutts, Charles Holler, and John Dutraw, or a majority of them,
be and they are hereby authorised to propose a scheme of a lotte-
ry, for raising a sum of money not exceeding twelve hundred dol-
lars for the purposes aforesaid, and to sell and dispose of the tick-
ets therein.
2. And be it enacted, That the said Charles Fague, Michael
Piper, George Newkirk, George Shun, Charles Holler, and
John Dutraw, before they proceed to the sale of any ticket or
tickets in said lottery, shall give bond to the state of Maryland,
in the penalty of twenty-four hundred dollars, conditioned that
they will well and truly pay the money arising therefrom, within
ninety days after the drawing thereof, to the fortunate adventu-
rers for prizes drawn by them, and to the defraying of the neces-
sary expenses incurred in the management thereof, and within
six months thereafter shall apply the residue, or so much thereof
as shall be necessary, to the finishing of said school-house, and
the purchase of church bells in said town.
3. And be it enacted, That the said bond shall be lodged in the
clerk's office of Washington county, to be there recorded, and
upon such bond, or an office copy thereof, suit or suits may be
instituted for any breach or non-compliance with the condition
thereof.

CHAPTER 89.

An act to authorise a Lottery or Lotteries to raise a sum of
money for the. purpose of repairing and raising a fund
for the use of Washington College.
Sec. 1. Be if enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That it shall and may be lawful for the visitors and governors of
Washington college, or a majority of them, to propose a scheme
or schemes of a lottery or lotteries, for raising a sum of money
not exceeding thirty thousand dollars clear of all expenses, and
to dispose of or sell all or any of the tickets of said lottery or lotte-
ries in the city of Baltimore, or any other part of the state, and
to draw the same, or to authorise any other persons to draw the
same in the city of Baltimore, exclusive of any controul over the
same by the corporation of the city of Baltimore, any law or
usage to the contrary notwithstanding; Provided, that the said
visitors and governors, or a majority of them that undertake to
act under this act, shall, before the sale or disposal, of any ticket
