CHAPTER 240.

An act for the benefit of Michael Lovejoy, of Prince-
George's County.
whereas it is represented to this general assembly, by the
petition of Michael Lovejoy, of Prince-George's county, that in
the year eighteen hundred and nine, one hogshead of second to-
bacco was inspected at Nottingham warehouse, in said county,
and deposited therein by said Lovejoy: And whereas, it appears
by the said petition, that the note for the hogshead of tobacco afore-
said was lost, mislaid or destroyed, and that notwithstanding oath
las been made to the fact of its being lost by the said Lovejoy,
the inspector at said warehouse refuses to renew a note for the
same; now therefore,
Sec. 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That if the said Michael Lovejoy shall make oath before a justice
of the peace of Prince-George's county, at any time within six
months after the passage of this act, to the fact of the loss of the
Raid tobacco note, and shall take a certificate thereof to the in-
spector at the warehouse aforesaid, and there shall be found on
the inspector's books at said warehouse for the year eighteen
hundred and nine, a record of a second hogshead of tobacco, a
note for which issued to the said Michael Lovejoy, and which he
the said inspector shall have good and sufficient reasons to be-
lieve to be the same hogshead of tobacco for which the note lost
as aforesaid issued, and the hogshead of tobacco for which said
lost note appears as aforesaid to have been issued, yet remains in
said warehouse, then the said inspector shall deliver to the said
Michael Lovejoy a new note for the said hogshead of tobacco,
corresponding with the one recorded on the books aforesaid, the
said Michael Lovejoy first paying to the inspector aforesaid all
warehouse charges that have accrued on said hogshead of tobac-
co, up to the time of renewing the note aforesaid; Provided,
that the said Michael Lovejoy shall not receive a new note for
the one so lost, destroyed or mislaid, unless he shall give notice.
in some one of the public newspapers printed in Baltimore, of
his intention to apply for a new note, in lieu of the one so lost,
mislaid or destroyed, at least twenty days before his application
for the same, in which notice the mark, number, weight and date,
of said lost note, shall be set forth.
2. And be it enacted, That the said inspector shall, upon grant-
ing a new note, be thereby discharged from all action and de-
mand on account of the former note so lost, mislaid or destroyed.

A Supplement to an act, entitled, An act for the speedy con-
veyance of Public Letters and Packets, and for other pur-
poses.
Whereas, the mode heretofore practised for forwarding the
laws, votes and proceedings, and other public letters and packets,
to the different counties of this state, has been found deficient and
productive of much delay and inconvenience to the people of this
state; Therefore,
