CHAPTER 168.

An act Supplementary to the Act, entitled, An act to In-
corporate a Company to make a Turnpike Road from
the City of Baltimore to Havre-de-Grace.
Sec. 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That it shall and may be lawful for the president and managers
of the Baltimore and Havre-de-Grace Turnpike Road Company,
to alter any part of the location of said road, so far as the same
passes through Harford county, as they in their judgment shall
deem necessary, they making, or causing to be made, a survey
of such alteration of the location, and causing a plot thereof to
be filed in each of the offices of the clerks of Baltimore and Har-
ford counties.

CHAPTER 169.

An act to Incorporate the Medical Society of Maryland.
Sec. 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Elisha De Butts, Samuel Baker, Tobias Watkins, Max-
well M'Dowell, Richard W. Hall, Ezra Gillingham, John B.
Caldwell, Thomas Hall, Richard W. Hall, Nathaniel Potter,
and James Middleton, and such persons as they may from time
to time elect, and their successors, are hereby declared to be one
community, corporation and body politic, for ever, by and un-
der the name and title of The Medical Society of Maryland, and
by and under the same name and title they shall be able and ca-
pable in law to sue or be sued, to prosecute or defend any suit
in equity and law, to purchase, take, have and enjoy, to them
and their successors, in fee, or for less estate or estates, any
lands, tenements, rents, annuities, chattels, bank stock, regis-
tered debts, or other public securities within this state, by the
gift, bargain, sale or devise, of any person or persons, bodies po-
litic or corporate, capable to make the same, and the same at
their pleasure to alien, sell, transfer or lease, and apply to such
purposes as they may adjudge most conducive to the promoting
medical knowledge.; Provided nevertheless, that the said medical
society, or body politic, shall not at one time hold or possess
property real, personal or mixed, exceeding in total value the sum
of five thousand dollars per annum.
2. And be it enacted, That the members of the said society shall
hold their first meeting on or before the first Monday in Novem-
ber next in the city of Baltimore, at which meeting they shall
elect a president, a secretary and treasurer; make and adopt a
common seal, and elect such persons as they may deem qualified
to become members of their society.
3. And be it enacted, That every person who, upon applicati-
on, shall be elected a member of the Medical Society of Mary-
land, shall pay the sum of five dollars to the society.
4. And be it enacted, That the said Medical Society of Mary-
land be and they are hereby empowered, from time to time, to
make such by-laws, rules and regulation1?, as they may find re-
quisite; to break or alter their common seal; to fix the times
and places for their general meetings, the modes and times for
