duction of the certificate as aforesaid; and the said inspector or
inspectors shall upon granting new note or notes be thereby
discharged from all action and demands on account of the
former note or notes so lost mislaid or destroyed; Provided,
that the said Ignatius Pike shall not be entitled to receive new
notes in lieu of the notes so lost, mislaid or destroyed, unless
be shall give notice in some one of the public news papers print-
ed in Baltimore, of his intention to apply for new notes in lieu
of the notes so lost, mislaid or destroyed, at least twenty days
before his application for the same, in which notice the marks,
numbers, weights and dates of said notes shall be set forth.

CHAPTER 105.
An act to lay out and open a road near Hancock Town in
Washington County.
Sec. 1. BE IT ENACTED by the General Assembly of
Maryland, That the levy court of Washington county be and
they are hereby authorised and directed to appoint three com-
missioners, and they or a majority of them are authorised and di-
rected to survey and lay off a road not exceeding thirty three feet in
width, beginning at the old public road at the farm of Nicholas
Parrott, and to pass his dwelling house, then along the division
line, between his land and William Hope's, thence through the
farm of Josias Carter, continuing on the north side of the
round hill to Jacob Leopard's mill, from thence as near the riv-
er Potowmac as practicable, until it intersects the old public
road at or near William Redburn's, and when surveyed and
laid out to return a plot thereof to the clerk's office of said
county to be there filed and recorded.
2. AND BE IT ENACTED, That the levy court of said
county when a plot of the road as aforesaid shall be returned
by the commissioners aforesaid, is hereby empowered at the
next court thereafter, to appoint an overseer or overseers to
clear and open said road, and to levy such sum of money as
shall be considered reasonable for the purpose of clearing and
opening said road; and the said road when opened and cleared
shall be deemed a public road, and shall be kept in repair in
the same manner as other public roads in said county are.
3. AND BE IT ENACTED, That the commissioners
shall be entitled to receive as a compensation the sum of two
dollars for every day they shall attend for the discharge of the
duties required of them by this act, and the said overseer or
overseers shall receive the same compensation which the over-
seers of public roads respectively receive, which compensation
shall be levied collected and paid in the same manner that oth-
er county charges are levied collected and paid.
4. AND BE IT ENACTED, That the said commission-
ers when they lay out said road, shall assess the damages, tak-
ing into consideration the advantages or disadvantages sustsin-
ed by the individuals over whose lands the said road may he
laid out, and to return such assessment to the levy court to be
levied, collected and paid as other county charges are levied,
collected and paid.
