Trustees to
give bond.

A supplement to the act, entitled "An act for founding
an Academy at Hager's Town, in Washington county."
Section 1. BE IT EN ACTED by the General Assem-
bly of Maryland, That it shall and may be lawful for the
trustees of the Hager's Town Academy, for the time be-
ing, or a majority of them, to propose a scheme of a lot-
tery for raising a sum of money not exceeding ten thou-
sand dollars, and to dispose of the tickets thereof; Pro-
vided, the said trustees, or such majority of them, as shall
undertake to act under this law, shall, before the sale or
disposal of any ticket or tickets in said lottery, give their
bond to the state of Maryland, in the penalty of thirty
thousand dollars, conditioned, that they will well and
truly apply so much of the money arising therefrom, with-
in six months after the drawing of said lottery shall com-
mence, as will satisfy the fortunate adventurers, for prizes
drawn by them; and after deducting the necessary ex-
penses incurred in said lottery, shall, within six months
from the time the drawing of said lottery shall commence
apply the money raised by such lottery, to the building
of a suitable house or houses for the accommodation of
the teacher or teachers employed in said academy.

2. AND BE IT ENACTED, That it shall be the duty
of the said trustees, before they act as such, to lodge the
bond made and entered into as aforesaid, in the office of
the clerk of Washington County Court, there to be re-
corded; and upon such bond, or any office copy thereof,
suit or suits may be instituted against the obligors there-
in, or any of them, or their legal representatives, for
any breach or non-compliance with the condition of the
same.

3. And whereas the trustees of the Hager's Town Aca-
demy aforesaid, have by their petition to this General
Assembly, represented that great inconvenience has oc-
curred, in consequence of the great number of trustees
authorised to be appointed by the act to which this is a
supplement, and have prayed that the said number may
be reduced from twenty-one to seven, which is deemed
reasonable and right :

4. BE IT THEREFORE ENACTED, That from and
after the next election of trustees for the said academy,
the community, corporation, and body politic, called and
named the Trustees of the Hager's Town Academy, shall
consist of the number of seven trustees, instead of the
number of twenty-one, as now established by law.

5. AND BE IT ENACTED, That an election for se-
ven trustees, be held on the first Monday in March next,
and on the first Monday of every succeeding March, at
such place in Hager's Town, as the president shall ap-
