and place the same to the credit of the commissioners of the
school fund for said county.
2. And be it enacted, That the treasurer of the western shore do
forthwith invest by a purchase of stock of the said bank, the sum
of eight hundred and twelve dollars and forty five cents, being the
balance reported by the treasurer as due to the commissioners of
the school fund for Prince Georges county, and the sum of one
thousand eight hundred and five dollars and eighty cents, being the
balance reported as due to the commissioners of the school fund
of Frederick county, and place the same to the credit of the com-
missioners of the respective counties.

CHAPTER 15.

An act to authorise John L. Jaques to cut a canal therein mentioned in Dor-
chester County.
Whereas, John L. Jaques of Dorchester county, has petitioned
the general assembly of Maryland for a law to enable him to cut
a canal between the waters of Fishing bay and Nantitoke river in
Dorchester county; Therefore,

Preamble.

Sec. 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That John I,. Jaques, be, and he is hereby authorised to excavate,
cut, and make a canal from the head waters of Poco creek emp-
tying into Fishing bay to the head waters of Jack's creek, running
into Nanticoke river in Dorchester county, of such width and
depth as shall be in the opinion of said petitioner most conducive
to the object he has in view.

2. And be it enacted, That the said John L. Jaques shall cause
the dirt coming out of the proposed canal in excavating the same
to be thrown equally on both banks or sides of said canal so as to
prevent the water from rising and overflowing the marshes and
lands through which the said canal shall pass; and shall also causa
a good and sufficient bridge to be constructed over said canal,
where the road from Hurley's neck leading to Nanticoke point
neck shall cross the same, and always keep said bridge in good
order and repair for the accommodation of those travelling on
said road.

3. And be it enacted, That the said John L. Jaques shall be,
and he is hereby vested with the exclusive and sole right of using
said canal, and that it shall not be lawful for any person to use
said canal without the permission of said John L. Jacques or im-
pede him in the full enjoyment and use of it.

4. And be it enacted, That nothing in this act shall be so con-
strued as to authorise said John L. Jaques to make and cut said
canal unless he shall previously get the consent of the proprietors
of the marshes or lands through which the said canal shall pass.

An act to confirm the proceedings of certain commissioners appointed to
divide Saint Mary's county into five separate election districts, by virtue
of an act passed at December session eighteen hundred and twenty two,
and confirmed at December session eighteen hundred and twenty three.
Whereas, at December session eighteen hundred and twenty
three, certain commissioners, to wit: James F. Sothorn, George
Slye, James Miltimore, Briscoe Davis, Thomas Swan, Henry G.
