CHAPTER 86.

An act for the benefit of the infant children and heirs at law of Jesse H. Wain-
right, late of Somerset county, deceased.
Sec. 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland, That
Somerset county court are hereby authorised and empowered to re-
ceive and confirm the proceedings of the commissioners already had
upon the petition of Samuel McBride and Leah, his wife, for the sale
of the real estate of Jesse H. Wainright, late of Somerset county, the
report of which said commissioners was ready to be returned to said
court at November term, eighteen hundred and twenty-three, and to
decree and order the said commissioners, or a majority of them to sell
all the real estate of said Jesse H. Wainright, contained in said re-
port, except the dwelling farm upon which Rosanna A. Wainright,
widow of said Jesse H. Wainright now resides, free from and disen-
cumbered of the widow's dower, and to sell the said dwelling farm
upon which the widow now resides, subject to her dower therein;
Provided, the said county court shall be satisfied that a sale of the
said estate in manner aforesaid, will be for the interest and advantage
of the infant children entitled to the said estate.

2. And be it enacted, That the said county court may and are here-
by authorised upon a sale of said estate as above, and in case the said
Rosanna A. Wainright has or will consent in writing to the sale of the
whole estate (except the dwelling farm upon which she now resides,)
free from and disencumbered of her right of dower therein, to award
her such proportion of the purchase money of that part of the estate to
which her right of dower shall have been released, as by the tenth sec-
tion of an act passed at December session, eighteen hundred and six-
teen, chapter one hundred and fifty-four, the said court might have
done if she had consented to the sale of the whole estate disencum-
bered of her dower.

Disposition.

3. And be it enacted, That all future proceedings under the said
commission and the proceeds of the sale of the said estate made by
virtue of this law, shall be according to and governed by the provi-
sions of an act entitled, an act to authorize the chancellor and the sev-
eral county courts of this state to order and decree the sales of real
estate of minors in the cases therein mentioned, passed at December
session, eighteen hundred and sixteen, and its several supplements.

A supplement to an act entitled, a supplement to the act entitled, an act relative
to negroes and slaves.
Whereas, special acts of legislation to authorise the removal of
slaves into this state have been numerous and of course greatly ex-
pensive to the state; And whereas, no great inconvenience can occur
from a general law embracing most of such cases—Therefore,

Preamble.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland, That if any
citizen of this state hath acquired or shall acquire property in any
slave or slaves being residents of any of the United States, by mar-
riage, bequest, course of distribution, or as guardian, or by gift, or in
any other lawful manner, such citizen may at any time remove and
bring such slave or slaves for the purpose only of working or employ-
ing such slave or slaves within this state, for his own immediate ser-

or slaves be rendered in the manner directed by the act of seventeen
hundred and ninety-six, chapter sixty-seven, and the act of eighteen
