Preamble.

CHAPTER 197.
An act to pay the civil list, and other expenses of civil government.
Whereas, those who dedicate their time, abilities and labor to
the public, ought to receive a, reasonable compensation for their ser-
vices;--Therefore,
Sec. 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland, That
the following officers of the civil government for the time being,
shall be entitled to receive at the rate of the following salaries, in cur-.
rent money for the ensuing year, to wit: the treasurer of the western
shore two thousand dollars; the Treasurer of the eastern shore four
hundred and fifty dollars, the Auditor seven hundred dollars; the
Clerk of the Council fifteen hundred dollars in lieu of all other re-
muneration and compensation from the state; the Clerk of the Senate
one hundred and fifty dollars; the Clerk of the House of Delegates
three hundred dollars; the Examiner General six hundred dollars
including his legal fees; the Messenger to the Council three hundred
and fifty dollars, as a full compensation for his services as Messenger
to the Executive, and keeper of the State House, and in lieu of the
allowances heretofore made in the annual bill for the payment of the
civil list under a resolution of the General Assembly of the tenth
day of March, 1786, and under a resolution of the General Assembly,
passed at December session, eighteen hundred and nineteen, number
fifty-six.

2. And be it enacted. That all monies which shaft remain in the
treasury after discharging the journal of accounts, and all unappro-
priated money which may come into the treasury, be first applied to
the payment of the civil list.

CHAPTER 198.
An act for the re-valuation of real and personal property in Worcester and
Queen Ann's Counties.
Sec. 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland, That
the commissioners for the tax of Worcester and Queen Ann's Coun-
ties, be, and they are hereby authorised and directed, to meet at the
county town immediately after the passage of this act, or as soon
thereafter as may be practicable, and proceed agreeably to the pro-
visions of an act passed at November session, eighteen hundred and
twelve, entitled, an act for the valuation of real and personal property
in the several counties of this state, to re-value and re-assess the real
and personal property within said county.
