of the said estates, and also became entitled to a portion of the
same, under the last will and testament of the said Clery; and their
being great reason to apprehend said Nagot, Clery, Cathelin and the
said John Tessier, notwithstanding their compliance with the forms
then used for the naturalization of foreigners in thin state, did not
become thereby entitled to the privileges of citizens, the court before
whom the said forms were executed being supposed incompetent in,
that manner to naturalize foreigners, the estates thus purchased by
them have become liable to escheat; and whereas, the said John Tes-
sier having for his greater security now become a citizen of the
United States according to the present laws for that purpose, and ha-
ving also taken out escheat warrants for all the real estate of which
he became possessed as aforesaid, and it being unreasonable and un-
just that under these circumstances he should be obliged to satisfy the
state of Maryland, the amount required to be paid to the state in
cases of escheat; Therefore,

Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That the said John Tessier be confirmed in his estate, in the
pieces or parcels of land for which he has respectively taken out War-
rants of escheat from the land office of the western shore, dated on
the fourteenth day of December, in the year eighteen hundred and
twenty-two, to wit: for a piece or parcel of land, which is described
in a deed of conveyance from John L. Hovermeal and others,
to John Babtist Cathelin, bearing date on or about the first day of
April, eighteen hundred and three, and recorded among the land re-
cords of Baltimore county, in Liber W. G. No. seventy-five folio
three hundred and fourteen; also a part of a tract of land described in a
deed from John Carroll, to Francis Charles Nagot; hearing date on or
about the twenty-first day of October, seventeen hundred and ninety
one, and recorded among the lands record's aforesaid, in Liber W. G.
No. 66, folio 487; also a part of a tract of land described in a deed
from William Russell, to Francis Charles Nagot, by the name of
Charles Francis Nagot, bearing date on or about the fifth day of De-
cember, seventeen hundred. and ninety two, recorded among the land
records aforesaid in Liber W. G. No. LL folio 260; also a piece or
parcel of land described in a deed from John Eager Howard, to Fran-
cis Charles Nagot, dated on the thirtieth day of March, seventeen
hundred and ninety three, and recorded among the land records
aforesaid, in Liber W. G, No. K. K. folio 615; also a piece or parcel
of ground described in a deed from John Eager Howard, to. Peter
Bernard Clery, dated the seventeenth day of June, seventeen hun-
dred and ninety-five, recorded among the land records aforesaid in
Liber W. G. No. R. R. folio 606; also a piece or parcel of ground
described in another deed, between the same parties, dated the twen-
ty-fifth of August, seventeen hundred and ninety-six, and recorded
among the land records aforesaid, in Liber W. G. No. W. W. folio
713; also a piece or parcel of ground described in another deed be-
tween the same parties, dated the fifth day of April, seventeen hun-
dred and ninety-seven, recorded as aforesaid, in Liber W. G. No.
Z. Z. folio 360; also a piece or parcel of ground described in a deed
from Bernard Coskery, to Peter Bernard Clery, dated on the fifteenth
day of December, eighteen hundred and one, and recorded as afore-
said, in Liber W. G. No. 71, folio 63; and also several lots or parcels
of ground situate in that part of the city of Baltimore called Fell's
Point, which lots are described in a deed from Peter Bernard Clery,
to the above named John Tessier, dated on the twentieth day of No-
