Manduville Miller, John H. Fechtig, John M. Kreps, George Lorsh-
baugh, James Zwisler, Jr. John V. Swearingen, Levin C. Willis,
Daniel H. Middlekauff, and such other persons as now are or hereaf-
ter may become members of the said company, shall be, and they
are hereby declared to be one community, corporation and body po-
litic forever hereafter, by the name and style of The First Hager's-
Town Hose Company; the object of which company is hereby de-
clared to be, the protection of the property of the citizens of Ha-
ger's-Town from destruction by fire; for which purpose they are
hereby made able and capable in law to have, purchase, receive possess,
enjoy and retain to them and their successors, lands, tenements, rents,
annuities or other hereditaments, and the same to grant, demise, alien
or dispose of, in such manner as they may judge most conducive to

the interest of the company; Provided nevertheless, That the said
corporation or body politic shall not at any time hold or possess pro-
perty, real, personal or mixed, exceeding the sum of one thousand
dollars per annum.

Proviso.

2. And be it enacted. That the said company and their successors
by the aforesaid name, shall forever hereafter be able and capable in
law to sue and be sued, plead and be impleaded, answer and be an-
swered, defend and be defended in all or any court of justice what-
soever, and also to have, make and use, a common seal, and the same
to break, alter and renew at pleasure, and also to assemble and meet,
at such times and places as they may agree upon, and to ordain, esta-
blish and put in execution, such by-laws, ordinances and regulations,
as to them shall seem conducive to the interest of the said company,
and necessary to the good government and orderly management
thereof, the same not being contrary to the laws of this state or of
the United States; and generally to do and execute all such acts, mat-
ters and things as to them shall or may appertain to do.

CHAPTER 43.
An Act to divorce Captain Theophilas Russell and Ann his wife, of
Kent County.
Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That the said Theophilas Russell, be, and he is hereby divorced from
bed, board, and mutual cohabitation, with his wife, Ann Russell.
2. And be it enacted, That the said Ann Russell, shall not by vir-
tue of her marriage with the said Captain Theophilas Russell, be
authorised, to have or claim, any right or interest in the estate, real
personal or mixed, of the said Theophilas to be by him acquired after
the passage of this act.

CHAPTER 44.
An act for the relief of John Tessier of the City of Baltimore.
Whereas, It is represented to this general assembly by the pe-
tition of John Tessier, of the city of Baltimore, that many years ago
a certain Francis Charles Nagot, a certain Peter Bernard Cilery, a
certain John Babtist Cathelin, and the said John Tessier, all of them
natives of France, emigrated to this country and settled in the city
of Baltimore, where they respectively took the oaths of allegiance to
the United States and the state, in conformity with the existing usage
of naturalizing foreigners; that the said Nagot, Clery and Cathelin,
respectively became the purchasers of real estates which they held
as citizens of this republic, and that the said John Tessier after-
wards purchased of the said Nagot, Clery and Cathelin, divers parcels
