from each congregation; and the said trustees shall, in case the parish
may at any time be without a rector, take care of all such lands as
they may acquire, and shall not suffer any waste or tresspass to be
committed thereon until another rector can be got.

Government.

3. And be it enacted, That the vestry of the aforesaid parish,
and the rector thereof, shall in all cases be governed by the act en-
titled, An act for the establishment of vestries for each parish in
this state, passed at November session, seventeen hundred and
ninety-eight.

Ministry.
|
4. And be it enacted, That it shall not be lawful for the vestry-
men of the New Saint John's and the Rock Spring churches within
Saint John's Parish of the Protestant Episcopal Church in Har-
ford and Baltimore counties, to choose more than one minister to
officiate in the two said churches at any one time, any thing in any
law to the contrary notwithstanding.

CHAPTER 235.
An act for the relief of Samuel Simmons, of the city of Baltimore.
Whereas, it is represented to this general assembly, that a cer-
tain Samuel Simmons, of the city of Baltimore, hath suffered great
inconvenience and loss by the location of Madison-street through a
lot of ground leased to him by James R. Williams, situate on Brit-
ton-street, and distinguished on a plot by the number one hundred
and thirty-seven, at an annual ground rent of sixty-six dollars. And
whereas, the commissioners appointed by an act of assembly passed
at December session eighteen hundred and seventeen, have located
Madison-street to run through said lot No. 137, thereby depriving
the said Simmons of the privilege of improving the same—There-
fore,

May lease and
make improve-
ment.

Be it enacted By the General Assembly of Maryland, That
the said Samuel Simmons be permitted to lease or make improve-
ments on said lot number one hundred and thirty-seven, and when
Madison-street shall be opened and declared a public highway, the
said Simmons or his lessee shall be entitled to receive the same
compensation for damages as he would have been entitled to if
such improvements had been made prior to the location of said
street, any law to the contrary notwithstanding.

CHAPTER 236.
An act for the payment of the Journal of Accounts.
Whereas, It appears by the journal of accounts of this session,
that there is due from this state the sum of forty-five thousand five
hundred thirty-three dollars and eighty eight cents,
Be it enacted By the General Assembly of Maryland, That
the treasurer of the western shore be and he is hereby authorised
and required, to pay the several persons, their executors, adminis-
trators, assigns or orders, or to such of them as shall offer to receive
the same, the several sums of current money allowed to them res-
pectively, as they appear to be settled and ascertained by the said
journal of accounts, out of any money now in the treasury or that
shall come into the treasury subject to the appropriation of the ge-
neral assembly.
