the king of Great Britain, he migrated to the United States a few
years past, and at November term of Montgomery county court in
the year eighteen hundred and eighteen, gave notice of his intention
to become a citizen of the United States according to the laws
thereof; that in the mean time, without knowing that he could not
fully enjoy real estate in this state, he purchased of a certain Benja-
min Blowers, a house and lot in the town of Brookville in Mont-
gomery county, and has received a deed for the same—Now there-
fore,

Dec. Ses. 1821.

Be it enacted By the General Assembly of Maryland, That
the said John Hill, be and he is hereby authorised and empowered
to hold by the aforesaid deed of bargain and sale from the said
Benjamin Blowers, a title to the said property as fully and amply as

May hold title.

if he were a citizen of the United States: Provided, that unless the
said John Hill shall proceed according to the laws of the United
States in such cases made and provided, to make himself a citizen of
the United States, he, and every person claiming under him, shall
forfeit all benefit that they might otherwise have derived under the
provisions of this act: Provided always, that if the said John Hill
shall die before he can become a citizen of the United States, noth-
ing in the above proviso contained shall prevent the said John Hill
from transmitting, transferring or conveying a good and legal title
to the said property by decent or devise, to any person capable in law
to hold real property within this state.

CHAPTER 234.

An act for the benefit of the Rector of Saint John's Parish in Har-
ford and Baltimore counties.
Whereas, it is represented to this general assembly, by the
petition of certain persons belonging to the vestries and congrega-
tions of the New Saint John's and the Rock Spring churches, within
Saint John's Parish, of the Protestant Episcopal Church in Balti-
more and Harford counties, praying that a law may pass authoris-
ing them to hold a tractor parcel of land for the use and support of
their minister, and the prayer appearing reasonable—Therefore,

1822.

Preamble.

Sec 1. Be it enacted By the General Assembly of Maryland, That
it shall and may be lawful for Edward Day, John B. Bayless, and Wil-
liam Demmett, of the New Saint John's Church congregation, and John
Moores, Israel D. Maulsby and George K. Amos, of the Rock
Spring Church congregation in the Parish aforesaid in Baltimore
and Harford counties, in trust for the use of the officiating rector of
the said churches for the time being, and his successors, he and they
being of and conforming to the rules and regulations of the Pro-
testant Episcopal church in the state of Maryland, to hold any tract
or tracts or part of tracts of land, that they by deed of bargain and sale,
deed of gift or by devise may acquire, not exceeding one hundred
and fifty acres; solely for the support of the rector of the parish in
which the said churches are situate; and the said trustees and their
successors shall have an estate in fee simple in all such lands not
exceeding one hundred and fifty acres as aforesaid, as they or their
successors shall acquire a legal title to as aforesaid.

May hold land.

2. And be it enacted, That the said trustees, shall from time
to time, fill up vacancies that may happen in their board by death,
resignation or otherwise, so as to keep up the number of six, three
