this act; and the commissioners or commissioner so meeting, may
adjourn from time to time, and from place to place, until the whole

is completed.

3. And be it enacted, That the levy court of Montgomery
county, shall according to the provisions of the act of eighteen hun-
dred and five, chapter ninety-seven, appoint three persons in each
district, residents therein, who, or such of them as shall attend,
shall be the judge or judges of the elections for the district for
which he or they shall have been appointed, as aforesaid; and the
judges appointed shall have, hold and exercise the same powers

and authority, and be subject to the same penalties as the judges
of elections in Montgomery county now are: Provided, the said

commissioners shall not receive a sum exceeding two dollars each,
for each day they may be engaged in the execution of the duties re-
quired by this act.

Proviso.

4. AND BE IT ENACTED, That all laws now in force with re-

spect to the time, manner and mode of conducting and regulating
elections in the several counties of this state, shall be, and they are
hereby declared to be in full force and effect in Montgomery coun-
ty, not inconsistent with the provisions of this act.

5. AND BE IT ENACTED, That for services performed in virtue

of this act, the levy court of said county shall make reasonable
compensation out of the county levies.

6. and be it enacted, That all provisions of any former law
or laws inconsistent with, or repugnant to the present, be and the
same are hereby repealed.

CHAPTER 224.

A supplement to the act entitled, An act to authorise a lottery or lot-
teries to raise a sum of money for the purpose of repairing and
raising a fund for the use of Washington college.
Sec. 1. Be it ENACTED By the General Assembly of Maryland,
That the scheme or schemes of the lottery or lotteries authorised
by the act to which this is a supplement, shall be excepted from the
provisions of the act entitled, An act to regulate lotteries, and
the several supplements thereto, so far as the same impose or di-
rect that a tax shall be paid on the prizes to be drawn in said lot-
tery or lotteries, and as to the time of drawing imposed by the said

act.

2. And be it enacted, That the visitors and governors of

Washington college, or any seven of them, shall be, and they are
hereby authorised to sell such scheme or schemes to any persons
whatsoever; and the purchaser or purchasers thereof are hereby
empowered to sell and dispose of the tickets in the said lottery or
lotteries in the city of Baltimore or any other part of this state, ex-

of Baltimore, any law or usage to the contrary notwithstanding: Pro-
vided, that the purchaser or purchasers of such scheme or schemes,
shall, before the sale or disposal of any ticket or tickets in said lotte-
ry or lotteries, give bond to the state of Maryland in the penalty of
one hundred and sixty thousand dollars, to be approved by the gov-
ernor and council, conditioned that he or they will well and truly
apply so much of the money arising therefrom within twelve months
