Preamble.

CHAPTER 222.

An act to relinquish the right of the state to certain lands therein
mentioned.
Whereas, sundry citizens of this state, have heretofore located
warrants, and obtained patents for lands included within the lands
reserved for the use of the state, lying westward of fort Cumberland
in Allegany county; And whereas the titles of said patentees, and of
those claiming under them, are of doubtful validity—Therefore,

State right re-
linquished.

Be it enacted By the General Assembly of Maryland, That
the right of this state, in and to the lands lying within the said re-
serve, for which patents may have at any time heretofore been grant-
ed, and the patentees thereof and those claiming under them, are
in possession of the same respectively, be, and the same is hereby re-
leased, and the titles of the said patentees and of those claiming
under them respectively, be, and the same are hereby confirmed to
them, their heirs and assigns.

CHAPTER 223.

An act authorising Commissioners to make alterations in the election,
districts of Montgomery county.
Whereas, it appears to this general assembly, that the election
districts of Montgomery county are not laid off as nearly equal as
possible with regard to extent and population, whereby great incon-
venience is experienced by many of the voters; for remedy whereof,

SEC. 1. Be it enacted By the General Assembly of Maryland,
That William Culver, William Wilson, Edward Burgess, Elijah Wiers,
[ Viers] and Solomon Davis, be, and they are hereby appointed and
authorised, or a majority of them, or a majority of the survivors of
them, commissioners to review, alter and change the lines and
bounds of any of the election districts, and to lay off anew, and di-
vide Montgomery county into five separate election districts, in
conformity to an act to confirm an act entitled, An act to altar,
abolish and repeal certain parts of the constitution and form of gov-
ernment of this state as therein mentioned, passed in the year sev-
enteen hundred and ninety-nine, chapter forty-eight, carefully mak-
ing the several election districts as nearly equal as possible, having
regard to population, extent and convenience of the voters; and
each election district shall be numbered by the commissioners and
known thereafter by such number; and the commissioners shall
also make choice of a place in each district, at which the elections
for such district shall be held, as nearly central as practicable, hav-
ing regard to the circumstances aforesaid, and the accommodation
of persons attendant upon such elections; and the said commission-
ers, or a majority of them, or a majority of the survivors of them,
shall, on or before the second Monday of July next, make out and
deliver to the clerk of the county court of said county, a descrip-
tion in writing, under their hands and seals, specifying plainly the
boundaries and number of each district, and also the place in each
district where the elections for such district shall be held; and the
said clerk shall record the same in the records of said county.

When to meet.

2. And be it enacted, That the commissioners appointed by
this act, or a majority of them, or a majority of the survivors of
them, shall meet at Rockville in said county, on the first Monday
in April next, for the purpose of performing the duties imposed by
