Levy court to
meet and appoint
overseers.

CHAP. XXIX.
An Act to alter and change the mode of appointment of Overseers of Public

Roads, so far as relates to Somerset County.

1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland, That
the justices of the levy court for Somerset county be and they
are hereby authorised and required, to meet together on the first
Monday of April next, and on the same day in every year there-
after, at the court-house in the said county, and when so met to-
gether, appoint overseers of the roads for the said county, in as
full and complete manner as the justices of the peace for the said
county are authorised by the several laws regulating the appoint-
ment of overseers of the roads for the said county; and that the
law authorising the justices of the peace to appoint overseers, be
and the same, is hereby repealed.

Commissioners of
tax to meet for
making transfers.

2. And be it enacted, That the commissioners of the tax of
Somerset county shall, from and after the passage of this act,
meet on the first Monday of April in each year, for the purpose
of noting transfers, and hearing appeals, and shall sit so long as
shall be necessary, not exceeding twenty days in any year, and
they shall give public notice of the times of such meetings.

CHAP. L.

A Supplement to an act, entitled, An act to Incorporate a Fire Insurance Com-
pany in the City of Baltimore.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland, That
the act, entitled, An act to incorporate a Fire insurance Compa-
ny in the city of Baltimore, passed at November session eighteen
hundred and seven, shall be extended and continued until the
twentieth day of February eighteen hundred and forty, and until
the end of the next session of assembly which shall happen there-
after.

Wm. Hughlett, au-
thorised to build a
warehouse, &c.

CHAP. LI.
An Act to authorise the erection of a Warehouse in the Village of Greensbor-
rough, in Caroline County.

1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland, That
William Hughlett, of Caroline county, be and he is hereby au-
thorised to build a warehouse, for containing and securing tobac-
co offered for inspection, if in the judgment of the levy court of
Caroline county the erecting such warehouse would promote, the
public interest and convenience, and he the said William Hugh-
lett, or those claiming to hold under him, shall provide and keep
constantly in repair, beams, screws, scales, weights, brands and
mat king irons, and all other things necessary for inspecting to-
bacco brought into the said warehouse for inspection; and the said
warehouse, when erected and finished, shall be deemed a public
warehouse, and the proprietor or proprietors thereof may de-
mand, and shall be entitled to receive, one dollar for each hogs-
head of tobacco inspected at the said warehouse, before such
hogshead shall be removed, as a full compensation for the expense
of erecting the said warehouse, and keeping the same in repair,
and for providing of proper screws, scales, weights, brands, and
