CHAPTER 8.

AN ACT supplementary to an act entitled an act
appropriating a sum of money to pay for a
painting, illustrating the surrender, by George
Washington, of his commission as commander-
in-chief of the Army of the American Revolu-
tion, &c.
|

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assem-
bly of Maryland, That the further sum of three
thousand dollars be, and the same is hereby ap-
propriated out of any unappropriated fund in the
Treasury, to pay for the painting now being
painted by Edwin White, under the order of the
committee authorised by the act to which this is a
supplement.

SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That the Treasurer
is hereby authorised, on the warrant of the Comp-
troller, to pay over to the order of James Wallace,
S. Owings Hoffman, and W. Lingan Gaither, a
committee appointed on the part of the Senate, to
contract for, and superintend the execution of said
painting, or a majority of said committee, the said
sum of three thousand dollars.

SEC. 3. And be it enacted, That the said sum of
three thousand dollars shall not be granted to said
Edwin White, until the said committee, or a ma-
jority of them, shall have been satisfied with the
execution of said painting.
