county, shall have full and competent authority
to sell and dispose of the Primary School House,
in said Primary School District.

Money—how
to be applied.

SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That it shall
be the duty of said Trustees, to apply the moneys
accruing from said sale, to the erection of another
building for Primary School purposes, in the said
Primary School District, and at such place as will
best serve the public convenience, and promote
the interests of said School District.

In force.

SEC. 3. And be it enacted, That this act shall
take effect on the date of its passage.

CHAPTER 68.

Passed Febru-
ary 23, 1858.

AN ACT entitled an act to authorise the Mayor
and City Council, of Baltimore city to levy here-
after upon the assessable property within .said
city, a direct tax, not to exceed the sum of eight
hundred thousand dollars annually, with full
power by ordinance to provide for the collection
of the same.

Authorised and
empowered to
levy.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assem-
bly of Maryland, That the Mayor and City Coun-
cil of Baltimore city, be and they are hereby au-
thorised and empowered to levy hereafter a direct
tax upon the assessable property within said city ;

Proviso.

Provided, said tax shall not exceed the sum of
eight hundred thousand dollars annually; And
provided also, that said tax shall be levied for the
purpose of defraying the expenses of said corpora-
tion that may be over, above and exclusive of all
expenses, charges and costs, that they now are
empowered by law to defray by means of any tax
they have or might heretofore have levied and col-

lected.

City Council of Baltimore, may and they are here-
