gas, or according to the measurement of such de-
tective metre, such person or persons, or incorpo-
rated company, shall he liable to damages, to he
trebled by the court or justice of the peace, before
whom any action relating to the refusal to supply
the said gas, may he brought and that after the
expiration of thirty days after the rendering of
any such judgment, no former recovery shall be
pleaded.

SEC. 3. And be it enacted, That this act shall
go into effect from and immediately after its pas-
sage.

AN ACT to authorise the County Commissioners
of Montgomery county, to put upon the levy
of said county, a sum of money for the benefit
of George P. Atwood, of said county.

WHEREAS, a negro slave, named Frank Diggs, he-
longing to George P. Atwood, of Montgomery
county, was at the November term of eighteen
hundred and forty-six, of Montgomery County
Court, convicted of an assault with intent to
kill, and was by said Court, upon his being
found guilty, sentenced to five years and six
months confinement in the penitentiary, and
was appraised to be worth three hundred and
fifty dollars, and the said negro slave has served
out his time, and has been sold for the sum of
five hundred and forty-seven dollars, being one
hundred and ninety-seven dollars more than the
said George P. Atwood, got for said slave, at
his appraised value: Therefore,

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assem-
bly of Maryland, That the County Commissioners
of said county, be and they are hereby authorised
to put upon the next levy of Montgomery county,
for the benefit of George P. Atwood, of said
