SEC. 14. And be it enacted, That nothing in
this act contained, shall be so construed as to au-
thorise said Company to issue any note, token,
device or scrip, to be circulated or used as a cur-
rency.

SEC. 15. And be it enacted, That this act shall
take effect from and after the date of its passage.

AN ACT to authorise the Mayor and City Coun-
cil of Baltimore, to establish and enforce an in-
spection and measurement of Gas and Gas Me-
tres, in that city.

ised.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by Hie General Assem-
bly of Maryland, That the Mayor and City Coun-
cil of Baltimore be and they are hereby author-
ised to establish by an ordinance or ordinances,
and therein and thereby to enforce by proper pen-
alties, an inspection and measurement of carbu-
retted hydrogen or illuminating gas, and of me-
tres for measuring the same, in that city, and
also to provide for the appointment of one or more
inspectors and measurers, not exceeding four, for
that purpose, whose duties and salary or compen-
sation, by foot or otherwise, may be provided for
by the said ordinance or ordinances.

SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That in any case in
which the said inspectors and measurers, or any
one of them, shall have adjudged the said gas to
be below a proper standard, to be settled by the
said ordinance or ordinances, or any metre to
be defective, no recovery shall be had for any bill
or account for the supply of gas during such de-
ficiency of metre or inferiority of gas; and if any
person or persons, or any incorporated company,
shall shut off the gas supplied to the persons or
persons, who may refuse to pay for such inferior
