CHAPTER 56.

AN ADDITIONAL SUPPLEMENT to an act

entitled an act to provide for the speedy col-
lection of State and County taxes, in Baltimore
county, and for other purposes, passed at Jan-
uary session, eighteen hundred and fifty four,
chapter one hundred and thirty-nine.

Passed Febru-
ary 17, 1858.

WHEREAS, it appears that a large amount of State
and County taxes is placed in each and every
year, in the hands of the Sheriff of Baltimore
county, for collection, without any security for
the payment and collection of the same, other
than his official bond; Therefore,

Preamble.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General, Assem-
bly of Maryland, That the Sheriff of Baltimore
county, before entering upon the discharge of the
duties imposed upon him by the act and its sup-
plement, to which this is an additional supple-
ment, shall execute and deliver to the County
Commissioners of Baltimore county, a good and
sufficient bond, with security to be approved by
the said County Commissioners, in the penal sum
to be named by said County Commissioners, not
exceeding the whole amount of State and County
taxes so placed in his hands for collection, condi-
tioned for the faithful performance of the duties
imposed upon said Sheriff, by the act passed at
January Session, eighteen hundred and fifty-four,
chapter one hundred and thirty-nine, and its sup-
plements; and said bond shall be filed in the
office of the Clerk of the Circuit Court of Balti-
more county, and be by said clerk recorded; and
in case the said sheriff shall neglect or fail to enforce
the payment of said arrears of taxes, or to ac-
count and pay the same over to the Treasurer of
the State of Maryland and to the Treasurer of
Baltimore county respectively, on or before the
first day of December in each and every year,
said bond shall be liable for the same; and upon
suit instituted upon said bond in the Circuit court
for Baltimore county, said Court is hereby au-
thorised and required at its first term thereafter,
upon motion, and after not less than ten days
