CHAPTER 386.

AN ACT to allow William Stafford of Caroline

county, to bring into this State, a slave for a
term of years, therein named.

Passed March
10, 1858.

SECTION 1 . Be it enacted by the General Assem-
bly of Maryland, That it may and shall be law-

ful for William Stafford, of Caroline county, to
bring into this State, from the State of Delaware,
a negro woman named Eliza Cannon, a slave for
a term of years, purchased by the said William
Stafford.

Leave to bring
into the State.

SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That said Eliza Can-
non shall remove from the State of Maryland,
after her term of servitude expires, under a penal-

ty of one hundred dollars, recoverable before the
Orphans' Court of Caroline county, to be paid
into the colonization fund for the furtherance of
the objects of said society.

SEC. 3. And be it enacted, That this act shall
take effect from the date of its passage.

CHAPTER 387.

In force.

A SUPPLEMENT to an act, entitled an act, for
the better protection of Stevens' Ferry, passed
at December session, eighteen hundred and
forty-four, chapter one hundred and fifty-six.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assem-
bly of Maryland, That it shall be the duty of the
County Commissioners of Somerset and Worces-
ter counties, to levy upon the taxable property of
said counties, in the hands of their respective
Sheriffs, twelve months in advance, annually, a
sufficient amount, or sum of money for the pur-
chase of a rope or ropes for Stevens' Ferry, on
the Pokomoke river in said counties, and said
Sheriffs, shall upon the order of the keeper or
keepers of the said ferry, pay over to him or them
