SEC. 13. And be it enacted, That this act shall
take effect from the date of its passage.

CHAPTER 374.

AN ACT to facilitate the collection of taxes in
arrear in Baltimore county.

Preamble.

WHEREAS, William Pole and Pleasant Hunter,
late sheriffs of Baltimore county, have not yet
been able to complete the collection of the ar-
rears of taxes placed in their hands according
to law, and have made payments to the State
and county treasurers on account of such taxes
in advance, and in anticipation of their actual
receipts; And whereas, it is right and proper
that they should have the means of accomplish-
ing the collection of all such taxes in arrear,
as well as where they remain chargeable with
or for the same, and where they have made
payments in advance on account thereof as
aforesaid; Therefore,

Shall proceed
to collect ar-
rearages of
taxes.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assem-
bly of Maryland, That William Pole and Pleas-
ant Hunter, late sheriffs of Baltimore county,
shall proceed with diligence to collect all the ar-
rears of the State and county taxes remaining in
their hands uncollected, and for that purpose,
and until the collection thereof shall be comple-
ted, they may respectively exercise all the powers
provided or mentioned in the eighth and twelfth
sections of the act entitled an act to provide for
the speedy collection of the State and county
taxes in Baltimore county, and to authorise the
County Commissioners of said county, to effect a
loan in anticipation of the same, passed the
ninth day of March, eighteen hundred and fifty-
four, and all the provisions of said act, and of
the supplements thereto, passed the tenth day of
March, eighteen hundred and fifty-six, so far as
