CHAPTER 343.

AN ACT to authorise the County Commission-
ers of Kent and Queen Anne's counties to con-
tract for the free passage of the citizens of said
counties over Chester River Bridge, at Ches-
tertown.

6, 1858.

WHEREAS, it is represented to this General As-
sembly that the citizens of Queen Anne's coun-
ties, residing in the vicinity of Chester River
Bridge, are charged with the payment of large
sums for the privilege of passing over said
bridge, while they are also taxed in common
with other citizens of their respective counties,
to erect and keep up all other bridges in the
said counties; and it is also represented that
the Chester River Bridge Company are willing
to enter into an agreement for a reasonable
compensation whereby the equal privilege of
getting to mill, market and church shall be
secured to those persons residing in the vicinity,
and to all other citizens of the said two coun-
ties, by passing over the said bridge, which is
enjoyed in reference to all the other bridges in
said counties; Therefore,

Preamble.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assem-
bly of Maryland, That the County Commissioners
of Queen Anne's and Kent counties be and they
hereby are respectively authorised and empow-
ered, in their discretion, to contract, either di-
rectly or by agent, one or more to be appointed
by them, or either of them, with the president
and Directors of Chester River Bridge Company
for the passage of the citizens of Queen Anne's
and Kent counties respectively, their servants,
wagons, carts and carriages, and effects across
the said bridge, on such terms and conditions,
and with such limitations as the contracting
parties may agree upon, and the same contract,
from time to time, to renew as the same may
expire; and the said commissioners are hereby
authorised to levy and assess upon the taxable
property of their respective counties, the sum
necessary to comply with said contract; Pro-
