LAWS OF MARYLAND.

Persons em-
ployed in ware-
houses not to be
engaged in the
purchase or
sale of tobacco.

SEC. 11. And be it enacted, That no person
whatever, appointed or employed in any of the
Tobacco warehouses in the city of Baltimore, shall
be engaged in the purchase or sale of Tobacco,
nor shall it be lawful for any person thus ap-
pointed or employed in the warehouse, to receive
any gift or emolument whatever for any favor or
service rendered, except his regular salary per
diem; any person thus convicted shall be dismiss-
ed from office or service.

Inspectors to
report to comp-
troller and Le-
gislature.

SEC. 12. And be it enacted, That each Inspec-
tor shall make a regular return to the Comptrol-
ler of the Treasury four times in each year, viz :
January, April, July and October, as now re-
quired by law, showing the receipts and disburs-
ments of his office, with the vouchers thereof, and
at the meeting of each and every Legislature, he
shall, within twenty days from the commencment
thereof, report to the House of Delegates the gen-
eral working operations of his house, setting
forth the receipts, naming specially outage, stor-
age and scraps, together with his disbursements,
naming specially nails and labour, and incidental
expenses generally.

Clerks to be ap-
pointed.

SEC. 13. And be it enacted, That each Inspector
shall be entitled to appoint a chief clerk, a ship-
ing clerk, a receiving clerk, and a weighing clerk,
and that each Inspector shall receive for his ser-
vices twelve hundred dollars, and the chief clerk
nine hundred dollars, and the shipping and re-
ceiving clerk shall receive two dollars per day,
and the weighing clerk shall receive one dollar
and fifty cents per day.

Control of
wharf.

SEC. 14. And be it enacted, That in the ab-
sence of the wharfinger each Inspector of Tobac-
co, or the chief clerk shall have full charge and
control of the wharf in front of the warehouse to
which he may be appointed, so far as relates to
the landing of wood or other materials to the ex-
clusion of Tobacco; and any master or owner of
any vessel lying at any of the wharves in front
of the warehouses not having Tobacco on deck,
who shall be requested by the Inspector or his chief
clerk to remove said vessel in order that one hav-
ing Tobacco on deck may have the privilege of
landing the same, shall refuse to remove such
vessel, such master or owner shall pay a fine of
