SEC. 3. And be it enacted, That this act shall
take effect from the date of its passage.

CHAPTER 296.

10, 1858.

AN ACT for the benefit of Ebenezer Horner,
James H. Webb, William Hammond, Ennals
Dickerson, Hewett Ross, William Philips, Israel
Collins and Stephen Philips, free persons of
color, of Caroline county.

Preamble.

WHEREAS, it is represented to this General Assem-
bly, that Ebenezer Horner,. James H. Webb,
William Hammond, Ennals Dickerson, Hewett
Ross, William Philips, Israel Collins and Ste-
phen Philips, of Caroline county, free persons
of color, have by their industry, economy and
good conduct, acquired some real estate in Caro-
line county, which they are desirous of trans-
mitting by their last wills, which under the ex-
isting laws of this State they are unable to do ;
Therefore;

Authorised to
dispose of pro-
perty by will.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assem-
bly of Maryland, That the said Ebenezer Horner,
James H. Webb, William Hammond, Ennals
Dickerson, Hewett Ross, William Philips, Israel
Collins and Stephen Philips, be, and they are
hereby authorised to devise, bequeath and dispose
of their said lands and tenements by their last
wills and testaments, and the said devisees are
hereby authorised and empowered to have, hold,
occupy, possess and enjoy the said lands and tene-
ments as fully as the lawful descendents of other
persons now do, any law, usage or custom to the
contrary notwithstanding.
