LAWS OF MARYLAND.

district lying south of the following described
lines, viz: beginning at the Pocomoke river at
the mouth of Carey's creek and running by and
with said creek to Mason's mills, thence by and
with the county road from said Mason's mills to
Marshall's mills by the way of a place known by
the name of the "Sheep House," thence by and
with Swangut creek to the line of the State of
Virginia; and that one of said persons elected as
supervisor of public roads aforesaid shall be a
resident of that part of said district lying north
of the aforesaid line described in this section.

Commissioners
authorised to
fix salary.

SEC. 3. And be it enacted, That it shall be the
duty of the county commissioners of the county
aforesaid to fix the salary of the said supervisors,
HO to be elected, on or before the first day of Au-
gust, eighteen hundred and fifty-nine.


CHAPTER 243.

Passed March
2, 1858.

AN ACT to prevent certain nuisances within
the limits of the corporation of the town of
Havre de Grace, in Harford county, and to
grant to the Commissioners of said town, more
ample powers in the abatement thereof.

Shall keep in
repair.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assem-
bly of Maryland, That if any person or persons
shall excavate any lot or lots, or parts thereof,
within the limits of the town of Havre de Grace,
in Harford county, for the purpose of obtaining
moulding sand, or otherwise, to the depth of two
feet or more, and the said lot or lots, or parts
thereof, shall remain uncovered, it shall be the
duty of such person or persons to make and keep
in constant repair, good and sufficient under-
drains, that will carry off all water that may
collect and would otherwise remain in them, in
the part or parts thereof so excavated, and said
underdrains shall be well covered and secured,
so as not to endanger or incommode the public
