LAWS OF MARYLAND.

CHAPTER 233.

Passed March
2, 1858.

AN ACT to make valid and effectual the devise
and provisions contained in the last will and
testament of Thomas Shields, deceased, for the
benefit of the First Baptist Church, of Phila-
delphia.

Preamble.

WHEREAS, Thomas Shields, of Philadelphia, by
his last will and testament, dated the seven-
teenth day of July, in the year eighteen hun-
dred and thirty-two, duly admitted to probate
in the Register's Office of the City of Philadel-
phia, on the twenty-sixth day of December,
. eighteen hundred and forty-five, a duly certifi-
ed copy whereof was, on the eleventh of March,
eighteen hundred and forty-six, filed in the
office of the Register of Wills for Baltimore
county, and is therein recorded in liber D. M.
P., number twenty-five, folio one hundred and
one, devised and bequeathed unto his brother
Daniel Shields, his house and lot situated on
Baltimore street, in the City of Baltimore, in
trust for the First Baptist Church of Philadel-
phia, with the direction that he should, as soon
as practicable after the decease of said Thomas
Shields, execute a conveyance of said house
and lot to said Church, for their own proper use
and behoof, with the proviso therein, that the
nett proceeds of the rent of said house and lot
should be for the use and benefit of the poor
members of said Church forever, and should
be disposed of in the same way and manner as
the income of the real estate, held by said
Church, for the benefit of poor members is dis-
tributed, and for no other use whatsoever; And
whereas, it is the object of this law to give
effect to so much of the will of said testator as
is set forth in the above recital; And whereas,
said David Shields, by deed dated the twelfth
day of March, eighteen hundred and forty-six,
conveyed said lot to the said First Baptist
Church, of Philadelphia, by its then name of
the First Baptist Church, of Philadelphia,
meeting for worship in Second street, between
High and Mulberry streets; And whereas, the
