take effect from the date of its passage.

CHAPTER 220.

AN ACT to incorporate the President and Direc-
tors of the Chesapeake Fire Insurance Company
of Baltimore.

Preamble.

WHEREAS, the annual increase of the property and
business of the city of Baltimore, makes it ap-
parent that new Fire Insurance Companies, are
required to meet the corresponding demands of
the citizens, for protection against loss and dam-
age by fire; And whereas, it is the dictate of a
sound policy, that the protection and encourage-
ment of the Legislature, should be given to as-
sociations having in view ends which are cal-
culated to promote the welfare of the citizens,
and at the same time to increase the revenue of
the State;

Incorporated.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assem-
bly of Maryland, That Charles T. Maddox, Henry
W. Warfield, William Thomas Valiant, John H.
T. McPhersori, John K. Calwell, George Rogers,
Robert C. Barnes, Robert S. Banks, C. T. R.
Thorpe, Lewis Sutton, Edward S. Palmer, Theo-
dore Parsons, Henry W. Rogers, and the subscrib-
ers to the stock of the association, and their suc-
cessors, shall be and they are hereby declared to
be, a body politic and corporate, by the name and
style of the President and Directors of the Chesa-
peake Fire Insurance Company, of Baltimore, and
by that name shall have perpetual succession, and
be capable in law to sue and be sued, plead and
be impleaded, answer and be answered, defend
and be defended, in all courts of law or equity, or
