LAWS OF MARYLAND.

which may be by any law of this State applicable
to purposes of education in said county, except
the funds appropriated to the Elkton and West
Nottingham academies, shall be paid directly to
the Treasurer of the Board of Commissioners of
Public Schools, and the balance necessary for the
support of the schools shall be annually estimated
and determined by said Board of Commissioners
of Public Schools, who shall report the same to
the County Commissioners, who are hereby au-
thorised and required to levy annually the sum so
estimated and reported, upon the assessable pro-
perty of Cecil county, to be collected in the same
manner as other taxes now are or shall hereafter
be collected; the said school tax when collected
shall be paid over to the Treasurer aforesaid

Proviso.

quarterly; Provided, the said levy for school pur-
poses shall not exceed twelve cents on the one
hundred dollars.

Terms of tui-
tion.

SBC. 2. And be it enacted, That each pupil shall
pay one dollar per quarter in advance, unless the
parent or guardian of said pupil shall be unable to
to pay the same, and in that case the School Com-
missioner of the election district shall admit
such pupil free of charge, and the ability or
inability of the parent or guardian to pay shall
be determined by said Commissioner.

No money to
be paid except
upon draft of
Treasurer.

SEC. 3. And be it enacted, That no money
shall be paid to Cecil county on account of the
State school fund except upon the draft of the
Treasurer of the Board of Commissioners of
Public Schools of Cecil county, countersigned by
the President of said Board.

In force.

SEC. 4. And be it enacted, That all previous
acts inconsistent with this act be and the same are
hereby repealed; and that this act shall take
effect from and after the date of its passage.
