lected, which sum or sums when so collected,
shall also be paid over to the said treasurer ;

Provisos.

Provided, there shall not he levied or collected
in any one year, more than twelve cents in every
hundred dollars; And provided further, that a
special tax may he imposed upon any school dis-
trict, if a majority of the tax payers in said
school district, shall so petition the County Com-
missioners.

Repealed.

SECTION 21. And be it enacted by the General
Assembly of Maryland, That all acts heretofore
passed by the Legislature, which may he incon-
sistent with this act, or with any of the parts
thereof, be and the same are hereby repealed.

In force.

SEC. 22. And be it enacted, That this act shall
take effect from the first Tuesday of June next.

CHAPTER 189.

AN ACT to allow William O. Chappell, late
sheriff for Montgomery county, and collector of
election district number four of Montgomery
county, further time to complete his collections.

Authorised to
collect.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assem-
bly of Maryland, That William O. Chappell, late
sheriff for Montgomery county and collector of
State and county taxes for the years eighteen hun-
dred and forty-six, forty-seven and forty-eight,
for the fourth election district of Montgomery
county, be and he. is hereby authorised and em-
powered to collect any fees or balance of fees and
taxes, or balance of taxes now remaining due to
and uncollected by him in the county and district
aforesaid, in the same manner and with the same
power and privilege as are allowed by existing
laws in such case made and provided.

Required to
make affidavit.

SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That the said Wil-
liam O. Chappell shall, in every instance, before
he shall proceed to the aforesaid collection make
affidavit before some justice of the peace for Mont-
