to have power.

SEC. 10. And be it enacted, That the president
and commissioners aforesaid shall have full power
and authority to provide for the payment of the
damages and expenses of opening, widening, lay-
ing out and grading of streets, lanes or alleys in
the village of Port Deposit, by levying and asses-
sing the same generally upon the whole of the
assessable property of said village, or specially
upon the assessable property of persons benefitted
by the opening, widening, grading or laying out
of said streets, lanes or alleys.

SEC. 11. And be it enacted, That this act shall
go into operation from and after the date of its pas-
sage.

AN ACT to refund to William W. Johnson cer-
tain moneys erroneously paid by him into the
Treasury.
|
|
|
Preamble.
|
WHEREAS at the last general assessment of the
real and personal property in the State, William
W. Johnson, of Somerset county, was the ow-
ner of Baltimore and Ohio Railroad stock to
the value of twenty-five thousand one hundred
and twenty-five dollars, which said stock at the
aforesaid value, was given in to the assessors of
said county, by the said William, and upon
which the State tax was regularly paid up to
the year eighteen hundred and fifty-six and in-
clusive of the same; And whereas, by the
charter granted by the State, and by a decision
of the Court of Appeals, the said stock was
made free from taxation; Therefore,

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assem-
bly of Maryland, That the Treasurer upon the
warrant of the Comptroller, is hereby authorised
|
