and depository of the public archives, in which
building there shall be made adequate provision
for the Comptroller's office and for the Land Office
of Maryland.

SEC. 3. And be it enacted, That of the said sum
of fifty thousand dollars, the sum of twenty thou-
sand dollars or so much thereof as may be requir-
ed, be expended, under the direction of the com-
mittee hereinafter provided, in the enlargement of
the Hall of the House of Delegates, the extension
of the State Library room and in the further pro-
vision of committee rooms for the use of the Gen-
eral Assembly.

SEC. 4. And be it enacted, That of the said sum
of fifty thousand dollars, the sum of ten thousand ,
dollars, or so much thereof as may be required,
be expended under the direction of the commit-
tee, hereinafter provided for, in the construction of
an artesian well to be obtained within the State
House circle, a steam apparatus for heating the
State House with steam, and for the introduction
of gas into every room in the same.

SEC. 5. And be it enacted, That a committee
to be composed of one member of the Senate to be
designated by the President, and one member of
the House of Delegates to be designated by the
Speaker, be and the same is hereby appointed, to
act during the recess of the General Assembly to
carry out the provisions of this act, and it shall
be the duty of said committee, forthwith to pro-
ceed upon the adoption of such plan as may seem
to them best adapted to accomplish the ends de-
signed to be secured by this act to carry out such
plan, to make contracts with responsible and effi-
cient parties for the building and work required,
and to see that the same be erected and done as
speedily as practicable.

SEC. 6. And be it enacted, That in case of the
death, resignation, inability or refusal to act, of
either of the members of said committee, the Gov-
ernor be, and lie is hereby authorised and reques-
ted to appoint some other member of the Legisla-
ture in place of such member, and the Governor
is hereby authorised to decide the matter in dis-
pute in case of any disagreement between the mem-
bers of said committee, and said committee shall
report to the General Assembly of this State, at
