LAWS OF MARYLAND.

CHAPTER 93.

Passed Febru-
ary 25, 1858.

AN ACT to authorise the Governor to appoint
four Inspectors and Measurers for the city of
Baltimore, of all Manures heretofore sold by
the cart load, provide for their compensation and
determine what quantity shall constitute a load.

Inspectors and
Measurers ap-
pointed.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assem-
bly of Maryland, That the Governor, by and with
the advice and consent of the Senate, be and he is
hereby authorised and required to appoint for the
city of Baltimore, four Inspectors and Measurers
of all Manures heretofore sold by the cart load.

Duties of In-
spectors and
Measurers.

SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That it shall be the
duty of said Inspectors and Measurers, on the ap-
plication of the party or parties wishing to pur-
chase, to inspect all such manures, determine their
quality and see to the measurement of the same.

Compensation.

SEC. 3. And be it enacted, That the said In-
spectors and Measurers, shall receive as compen-
sation for their services, three cents a load, to be
paid by the purchaser or purchasers, for all man-
ures intended, by this act, to be inspected and
measured, and the failure of the purchaser or pur-
chasers to require the services of said Inspectors
and Measurers shall not release them from the
obligations to pay the fees allowed by this act.

Cart load to
contain forty
cubic feet.

SEC. 4. And be it enacted, That from and after
the first day of March, eighteen hundred and fifty-
eight, a cart load shall contain forty cubic feet of
all manures heretofore sold by the cart load.

Make oath or
affirm.

SEC. 5. And be it enacted, That before the said
Inspectors and Measurers shall proceed to act as
such, they shall make oath or affirmation, as the
case may be, faithfully to perform their duty to
the best of their skill and judgment without fa-
vor, affection, partiality or prejudice.

To pay to the
State (fro per
cent, on fees re-
ceived.

SEC. 6. And be it enacted, That the said Inspec-
tors and Measurers shall keep an accurate account
of their receipts, and furnish the Comptroller of
the Treasury of Maryland, with quarterly state-
ments thereof under oath, and shall pay into the
Treasury of Maryland as a tax for the use of the
State, five per cent, on all fees received by them,
and the Inspector and Measurer failing to do so
